ARMED HOME INVASION IN WILLITS (LAW) JB 1/8/15

A SHOT WAS FIRED AT THE VICTIMS OF A HOME INVASION MARIJUANA ROBBERY IN WILLITS ON TUESDAY.

WILLITS POLICE OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO A RESIDENCE ON MILL CREEK COURT JUST AFTER 6 PM TUESDAY TO THE REPORT OF A LOUD DISTURBANCE. THE OFFICERS WERE INFORMED THAT, DURING A MARIJUANA SALE, TWO MASKED MEN ENTERED THE RESIDENCE ARMED WITH A HANDGUN AND ORDERED THE OCCUPANTS TO THE GROUND. THE GUNMEN STOLE AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MARIJUANA AND, AS THEY WERE LEAVING, ONE OF THE SUSPECTS FIRED A SHOT AT THE OCCUPANTS OF THE RESIDENCE. NO ONE WAS HIT BY THE GUNSHOT AND THE SUSPECTS FLED THE SCENE. INVESTIGATORS ARE REQUESTING THAT ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON THIS INCIDENT TO CALL SGT. MCNELLEY AT THE WILLITS POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 459-6122.

REWARD OFFERED FOR INFO ON LUCERNE MURDER (LAW) JB 1/8/15

A REWARD IS BEING OFFERED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE MURDER OF A LUCERNE MAN LAST APRIL.

THE RECORD BEE REPORTED THAT A $5,000 REWARD IS BEING OFFERED FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MURDER OF CHRISTOPHER WAY IN LUCERNE. THE 51 YEAR OLD VICTIM WAS SHOT BY AN UNIDENTIFIED SUSPECT ON THE EVENING OF APRIL 22 ON 12TH AVENUE. THE SUSPECT, DESCRIBED AS A 40 TO 50 YEAR OLD WHITE MALE WITH SHORT HAIR, RAN TOWARDS TOWER MART AFTER THE SHOOTING, SUPPOSEDLY CARRYING A HANDGUN. TO RECEIVE THE REWARD, INFORMATION PROVIDED MUST LEAD TO BOTH THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE SUSPECT.

BUILDING IDENTIFIED FOR FT BRAGG HOMELESS CENTER (PI) JB 1/8/15

A NEW LOCATION IN FORT BRAGG HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE POSSIBLE SITE FOR A HOMELESS AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES CENTER.

ACCORDING TO A PRESS RELEASE FROM CITY STAFF, THE FORMER OLD COAST HOTEL BUILDING ON NORTH FRANKLIN STREET HAS BEEN PROPOSED FOR ACQUISITION AND REHABILITATION FOR THE PROJECT THAT WOULD INCLUDE BOTH MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR THE HOMELESS. A $1.2 MILLION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT WAS AWARDED TO THE CITY TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT ON BEHALF OF THE MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITALITY CENTER. THE CENTER WILL PROVIDE SUPPORT GROUPS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN ADDITION TO CASE MANAGEMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.

THOMPSON SWORN IN AS 5TH DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE (GOV) JB 1/8/15

MIKE THOMPSON WAS RECENTLY SWORN IN AS THE 5TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE FOR CALIFORNIA.

HOWARD HOSPITAL BILLING PRACTICES QUESTIONED (ECN) JB 1/8/15

A MOVE TO OUTSOURCE BILLING SERVICES AT HOWARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL HAS MANY CUSTOMERS FRUSTRATED WITH THEIR SERVICE.

THE WILLITS NEWS REPORTED THAT SEVERAL PROBLEMS HAVE COME TO LIGHT SINCE HOWARD MEMORIAL HOSPITAL OUTSOURCED ITS BILLING OPERATIONS IN 2012 TO CENTRALIZED HUB IN WINDSOR, THEN CONSOLIDATED EVEN FURTHER. THE WILLITS NEWS HAS RECEIVED LETTERS FROM UNHAPPY CUSTOMERS, FRUSTRATED WITH A LACK OF CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND COMPLAINING ABOUT PROBLEMS OF LOST RECORDS, MISCHARGES AND UNNECESSARY COLLECTION NOTICES. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE BILLING CENTER USED BY HOWARD HOSPITAL RESPONDED STATING THAT A CHANGE WAS OBVIOUSLY NEEDED.

CLEARLAKE OAKS MURDER SUSPECT PLEADS NOT GUILTY (LAW) JB 1/8/15

A CLEARLAKE OAKS MAN CHARGED IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF HIS WIFE HAS PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO THE CHARGES AGAINST HIM.

59 YEAR OLD MARC ANTHONY CLARK PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO THE NUMEROUS CHARGES FILED AGAINST HIM IN THE DEATH OF HIS WIFE WHO HE ALLEGEDLY SHOT OVER THE WEEKEND BEFORE CHRISTMAS. ACCORDING TO THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE, CLARK CALLED LAW ENFORCEMENT AFTER THE INCIDENT TO REPORT THAT HE HAD SHOT HIS WIFE AFTER HAVING AN ARGUMENT WITH HER. CLARK IS CHARGED WITH 5 FELONIES AND 10 SPECIAL ALLEGATIONS AND IS DUE IN COURT JANUARY 27 FOR A PRELIMINARY HEARING.

POLICE SEARCH FOR SUSPECTS OF CLEARLAKE SHOOTING (LAW) JB 1/8/15

THE CLEARLAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS SEARCHING FOR THE SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING TUESDAY NIGHT.

CPD OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE AREA OF 36TH AND PHILLIPS AVENUES TO THE REPORT OF SHOTS BEING FIRED AND A PERSON IN DISTRESS. OFFICERS LOCATED A 43 YEAR OLD VICTIM WITH A GUNSHOT WOUND WHO STATED THAT HE HAD BEEN SHOT AT BY SEVERAL MASKED SUSPECTS OUTSIDE HIS RESIDENCE ON 36TH AVENUE. WHILE SECURING THE AREA AND AFTER OBTAINING A SEARCH WARRANT, OFFICERS DETERMINED THAT THE RESIDENCE WAS USED SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CULTIVATING AND SELLING MARIJUANA AFTER FINDING NEARLY 100 POUNDS OF PROCESSED MARIJUANA AND FIREARMS AND THAT THE VICTIM WAS A CONVICTED FELON.

NEW TRAIL ADDS PEDESTRIAN ISLANDS TO EAST GOBBI (PI) JB 1/8/15

ISLANDS KNOWN AS PEDESTRIAN REFUGES ARE BEING ADDED TO THE MIDDLE OF GOBBI STREET AS PART OF THE NEW TRAIL IN UKIAH.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT CREWS WERE LAYING CONCRETE THIS WEEK TO CREATE THE ISLANDS, WHICH THE UKIAH PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SAID ARE ADDED TO PROJECTS WHEN TRAILS DESIGNED FOR CYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS MEET CITY STREETS. THE PAVED TRAIL FROM EAST GOBBI STREET TO CLARA AVENUE IS COMPLETE, BUT THERE ARE SIGNS UP STATING THAT IT IS CLOSED WHILE THE CONTRACTOR IS STILL WORKING. THE CITY HOPES TO EXTEND THE TRAIL SOUTH TO TALMAGE ROAD AND GRANTS FOR THE FUTURE WORK ARE EXPLORED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT.
