MENDOCINO BOS TO DISCUSS LEGAL MARIJUANA (GOV) JB 1/19/15

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE WANTS TO BE PREPARED IN CASE MARIJUANA IS LEGALIZED IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE HAS AGENDIZED A REQUEST FOR TUESDAYS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING TO DISCUSS AND TAKE POSSIBLE ACTION IN PREPARATION FOR POSSIBLE STATE LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA. THE FORMATION OF A PROPOSED AD HOC COMMITTEE, INCLUDING 2ND DISTRICT SUPERVISOR JOHN MCCOWEN AND 3RD DISTRICT SUPERVISOR TOM WOODHOUSE, WOULD STUDY AND PREPARE FOR POTENTIAL ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION. CURRENTLY COLORADO, WASHINGTON, ALASKA AND OREGON ARE THE ONLY STATES THAT HAVE PASSED MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION INITIATIVES.

REDWOOD VALLEY BOY INJURED IN CRASH (LAW) JB 1/19/15

A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT IN REDWOOD VALLEY LEFT A 6 YEAR OLD WITH MAJOR INJURIES.

THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL AND REDWOOD VALLEY FIRE PERSONNEL WERE DISPATCHED THURSDAY TO EASTSIDE CALPELLA ROAD AT THE HIGHWAY 20 OVERCROSSING TO THE REPORT OF THE ACCIDENT. A 22 YEAR OLD REDWOOD VALLEY WOMAN WAS DRIVING HER 2001 GMC SIERRA NORTHBOUND WHEN SHE SAID SHE NEEDED TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WAY OF A SOUTHBOUND DARK COLORED CHEVY SUBURBAN THAT HAD ENTERED HER LANE, CAUSING HER TO COLLIDE WITH A BRIDGE ABUTMENT. THE DRIVER WAS NOT INJURED IN THE CRASH BUT A 6 YEAR OLD BOY IN HER CAR SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES. THE BOY WAS FLOWN TO UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER BY CALSTAR AND THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

PROPOSITION 47 AFFECTING MENDOCINO COUNTY (LAW) JB 1/19/15

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY HAS HAD HIS HANDS FULL WITH PROPOSITION 47 PETITIONS LATELY.

WHILE LAKE COUNTY HAS SEEN A LARGE NUMBER OF PETITIONS REQUESTING SENTENCE REDUCTION UNDER PROPOSITION 47, MENDOCINO COUNTY OFFICIALS HAVE ALSO BEEN DEALING WITH A DELUGE OF PETITIONS OF THEIR OWN. THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE HAS RECEIVED 91 PETITIONS FOR COMMUTING OF JAIL SENTENCES SINCE THE BILL PASSED LAST NOVEMBER, WITH 53 OF THOSE BEING GRANTED. ADDITIONALLY, 7 INMATES RECEIVED IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL. STATE OFFICIALS ESTIMATED THAT, PRIOR TO THE ELECTION, 40,000 OFFENDERS COMMIT CRIMES ANNUALLY THAT NOW ARE DEEMED MISDEMEANORS INSTEAD OF FELONIES.

LAKE COUNTY NEEDS MUSSEL SCREENING VOLUNTEERS (EVR) JB 1/19/15

VOLUNTEERS ARE BEING REQUESTED TO HELP SCREEN BOATS FOR INVASIVE QUAGGA MUSSELS IN LAKE COUNTY.

IN AN ONGOING EFFORT TO PROTECT CLEAR LAKE FROM THE INVASIVE MUSSEL SPECIES, THE LAKE COUNTY WATER RESOURCES DEPARTMENT IS ASKING FOR THE COMMUNITYS HELP WITH THEIR BOAT SCREENING PROGRAM. SINCE THE PROGRAM RECEIVES NO STATE OR FEDERAL FUNDING, AND WITH THE FAILURE OF A LAKE PROTECTION SALES TAX MEASURE, THE WATER DEPARTMENT NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FROM THE COMMUNITY TO HELP KEEP CLEAR LAKE FREE OF THE MUSSELS THAT HAVE TAKEN A HOLD OF SEVERAL CALIFORNIA LAKES. LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 15,000 BOATS WERE SCREENED BY THE COUNTY BEFORE GOING OUT ON CLEAR LAKE.

REACH OPEN TEMPORARY BASE AT UKIAH AIRPORT (PI) JB 1/19/15

WITH PLANS IN WILLITS AT A STANDSTILL, REACH AIR AMBULANCE HAS OPENED A TEMPORARY BASE AT THE UKIAH AIRPORT.

THE WILLITS NEWS REPORTED THAT AFTER REACH WAS FORCED TO WITHDRAW ITS IMMEDIATE PLANS TO ESTABLISH A WILLITS AIR AMBULANCE BASE AFTER THREATS OF LITIGATION FROM A WILLITS ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP, IT OPENED A TEMPORARY BASE ON JANUARY 13 AT THE UKIAH MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. THE IN-COUNTY BASING OF THE CHOPPER SAVES 3-5 MINUTES FOR DISPATCH AND 5-20 MINUTES FROM THE FLIGHT TIME FROM THE BASE IN LAKEPORT. THE PLACEMENT OF THE BASE IN UKIAH IS A TEMPORARY COMPROMISE AS REACH AND THE CITY OF WILLITS COMPLETE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ESTABLISH A FIXED BASE AT THE WILLITS AIRPORT.

R.V. ATTORNEY INDICTED IN FEDERAL COURT (LAW) JB 1/19/15

AN ATTORNEY FROM REDWOOD VALLEY HAS BEEN INDICTED IN FEDERAL COURT ON ALLEGED CONSPIRACY AND MONEY LAUNDERING CHARGES.

ROBERT ANDERSON AND HIS LAW PARTNER WERE EACH INDICTED ON FRIDAY BEFORE A FEDERAL GRAND JURY ON CHARGES INCLUDING CONSPIRACY AND MONEY LAUNDERING OF $300,000. THE TWO ARE ACCUSED SPENDING THE MONEY FROM A CLIENTS TRUST ON EXPENSES THAT WERE NOT RELATED TO THE CLIENTS REPRESENTATION AND THEN FALSELY STATING THE BALANCE OF THE CLIENTS TRUST AMOUNT. IF CONVICTED ON ALL CHARGES, THE TWO MAIN COULD FACE UP 30 YEARS IN JAIL AND $500,000 FINES. THE ACCUSED ATTORNEYS ARE SCHEDULED FOR AN INITIAL COURT APPEARANCE ON FEBRUARY 4 IN FEDERAL COURT.

MENDOCINO BOS TO DISCUSS WATER PRIORITIES (GOV/EVR) JB 1/19/15

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS SCHEDULED TO DISCUSS SEVERAL WATER ISSUES AT ITS NEXT MEETING.

THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICER STATED THAT AT THE BOARDS NEXT REGULAR MEETING, DISCUSSION WILL BE HELD ON FEDERAL AND STATE WATER PROTECTION MANDATES AND LOCAL WATER ISSUES AND PRIORITIES. THE MENDOCINO COUNTY WATER AGENCY, ENCOMPASSING THE ENTIRE COUNTY AND GOVERNED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, HAS A MISSION TO PROTECT AND DEVELOP THE WATER RESOURCES OF THE COUNTY, AND TO ENSURE THAT ADEQUATE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF WATER IS AVAILABLE TO MEET BOTH PRESENT AND FUTURE NEEDS OF THE COUNTY. THE BOARD WILL DISCUSS THE WATER PRIORITIES TO MAKE SURE THE COUNTY IS IN THE BEST POSSIBLE POSITION NOW AND IN THE COMING YEARS.

CLEARLAKE PLANNING TO REVIEW MASTER PARKS (GOV/EVR) JB 1/19/15

THE CLEARLAKE PLANNING COMMISSION HAS SCHEDULED A WORKSHOP TO DISCUSS THE MASTER PARK PLAN OF THE CITY.

THE CLEARLAKE PLANNING COMMISSION, WHICH SITS JOINTLY AS THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE, WILL REVIEW THE CITYS ADOPTED 2003-2013 MASTER PARKS PLAN AT THE WORKSHOP ON TUESDAY. THE MASTER PARKS PLAN ESTABLISHES THE PLANNING FRAMEWORK FOR THE FUTURE ACQUISITION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CITY PARK SYSTEM WHICH COVERS NEARLY 40 ACRES OF CITY PARKS, INCLUDING AUSTIN AND REDBUD PARKS. THE PLAN ALSO COVERS AND REVIEWS PARK RESOURCES OUTSIDE THE COUNTY INCLUDING COW MOUNTAIN AND THE MENDOCINO NATIONAL FOREST.
