WILLITS BYPASS SECTION COLLAPSES, THREE INJURED (TR) JB 1/23/15

A SECTION OF THE WILLITS BYPASS COLLAPSED DURING CONSTRUCTION YESTERDAY.

WORKERS FROM FLATIRON CONSTRUCTION WERE POURING CONCRETE INTO A FRAME SECTION OF THE BYPASS AT EAST VALLEY ROAD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHEN A SECTION OF THE STRUCTURE APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET LONG COLLAPSED. ONE WORKER WAS BRIEFLY TRAPPED UNDER THE DEBRIS FROM THE COLLAPSE AND HE AND TWO OTHER WORKERS SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES IN THE INCIDENT. THE COLLAPSE OCCURRED IN AN AREA NOT ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC AND TRAFFIC IN THE AREA WAS REROUTED TO EAST VALLEY ROAD TO ALLOW FOR EMERGENCY CREWS TO RESPOND. THE CAUSE OF THE COLLAPSE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY CAL TRANS OFFICIALS.

LAWSUIT ALLEGES HARASSMENT AT LAKE COUNTY JAIL (LAW) JB 1/23/15

ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT AT THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL ARE DETAILED IN A LAWSUIT FILED BY A FORMER EMPLOYEE.

ACCORDING TO THE RECORD BEE, A RECENTLY FILED LAWSUIT AGAINST THE COUNTY AND VARIOUS LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS EMPLOYEES PAINTS A GROSSLY UNPROFESSIONAL PICTURE OF WORKING CONDITIONS AT THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL. IN THE SUIT, THE PLAINTIFF ALLEGES SHE WAS SUBJECT TO MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT, DISCRIMINATION AND RETALIATION WHILE SERVING AS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER AT THE JAIL IN 2013. BESIDES AT LEAST EIGHT SHERIFFS EMPLOYEES, LAKE COUNTY IS NAMED IN THE CASE FOR ITS ALLOWANCE OF THE LCSOS RETALIATION AGAINST THE PLAINTIFF FOR HER WHISTLE-BLOWING EFFORTS.

LAKEPORT MAN CHARGED IN DUI WRECK (LAW) JB 1/23/15

A LAKEPORT MAN INVOLVED IN A VEHICLE CRASH EARLIER THIS MONTH THAT INJURED HIS PASSENGER IS FACING PROSECUTION FOR DUI.

ACCORDING TO CHP REPORTS, 22 YEAR OLD RYAN MATTHEW LUNAS WAS DRIVING EASTBOUND ON RIGGS ROAD LATE ON THE EVENING OF JANUARY 13 WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS CAR AND STRUCK A TREE. HIS 22 YEAR OLD PASSENGER SUFFERED MAJOR LACERATIONS TO HER HEAD AND FACE AND HAD TO BE FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. CHP DETERMINED THAT LUNAS WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT AND HE HAS REMAINED IN THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL SINCE THE ACCIDENT WITH HIS BAIL SET AT $200,000.

DISNEYLAND MEASLES OUTBREAK GROWS TO 70 CASES (PI) JB 1/23/15

THE OUTBREAK OF MEASLES CASES LINKED TO THE CALIFORNIA DISNEYLAND THEME PARKS NOW HAS 70 CONFIRMED CASES.

THE CONTINUANCE OF NEW MEASLES CASES BEING REPORTED HAS LED TO WARNINGS BEING ISSUED AGAINST THOSE WHO HAVE NOT BEEN VACCINATED AGAINST THE DISEASE FROM VISITING THE THEME PARK. ON WEDNESDAY, NEW INFECTIONS LINKED TO THE DISNEYLAND OUTBREAK WERE REPORTED, WITH CASE INCIDENTS BEING FOUND IN 5 DIFFERENT U.S. STATES AND IN MEXICO. THE AGES OF THE INFECTED SO FAR RANGE FROM 7 MONTHS TO 70 YEARS OLD, WITH A LARGE MAJORITY OF THEM FAILING TO RECEIVE THE PROPER VACCINATION TO PREVENT THE DISEASE.

IF THE SCHEDULE IS NOT FOLLOWED, CITY STAFF IS NOW AUTHORIZED TO SEEK A COURT ORDER FOR A RECEIVER TO OVERSEE WORK ON THE DECAYING HOTEL. TO AVOID RECEIVERSHIP PROCEEDINGS IN THE NEXT 90 DAYS, THE OWNER MUST COMPLETE ASBESTOS REMOVAL, REPAIR THE FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM, WATERPROOF THE LEAKING ROOF, ASSESS AND ADDRESS STRUCTURAL ISSUES, AND SECURE THE BUILDING AGAINST TRESPASSERS.

UKIAH MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD ENDANGERMENT (LAW) JB 1/23/15

A WELFARE CHECK BY UKIAH POLICE LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A MAN ON CHARGES OF CHILD ENDANGERMENT.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO A RESIDENCE LAST WEEK TO CONDUCT A WELFARE CHECK ON A TWO YEAR OLD JUVENILE. WHEN OFFICERS CONTACTED THE FATHER OF THE CHILD, 26 YEAR OLD RICHARD TILLMAN, THEY FOUND THE RESIDENCE FILLED WITH TRASH, DIRTY CLOTHES, AND ROTTING FOOD. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA WAS ALSO FOUND WITHIN EASY REACH OF THE CHILD. TILLMAN WAS FOUND TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING CHILD ENDANGERMENT.

SEN. BOXER WANTS TOY GUN BILL TAKEN NATIONWIDE (GOV) JB 1/23/15

FOLLOWING CALIFORNIAS LEAD, A NEW BILL REGULATING AUTHENTIC-LOOKING TOY GUNS HAS BEEN INTRODUCED BY SENATOR BARBARA BOXER.

LEGISLATION IN CALIFORNIA REGULATING REALISTIC TOY FIREARMS WAS INTRODUCED FOLLOWING THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A 13 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS CARRYING A LOOK-ALIKE AK-47 RIFLE AND NOW SENATOR BOXER WANTS TO TAKE THOSE REGULATIONS ACROSS THE NATION. THE BILL WOULD GIVE THE CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY COMMISSION THE POWER TO REGULATE ALL IMITATION FIREARMS AND REQUIRE THAT THEY BE COLORED AS TO DISTINGUISH THEM FROM REAL WEAPONS. THE BILL WOULD EXPAND THE SAFETY COMMISSIONS AUTHORITY TO REGULATE BB AND PELLET GUNS AS WELL AS AIRSOFT AND OTHER TOY GUNS.

CHP OFFICERS IN CLEAR LAKE GET NEW VEHICLES (LAW) JB 1/23/15

CHP OFFICERS IN CLEAR LAKE WILL NOW BE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF SOME UPGRADED PATROL VEHICLES.

TWO NEW PATROL UTILITY VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY THE CLEAR LAKE AREA CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICE IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. THE NEW FORD POLICE INTERCEPTOR UTILITY VEHICLES ARE GRADUALLY REPLACING THE OLDER FORD CROWN VICTORIA PATROL CARS. THE NEW PUVS ARE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE AND ARE REPORTEDLY BOTH FASTER AND SAFER THAN THE OLDER CROWN VICTORIAS AND COME EQUIPPED WITH NEW RADIO SYSTEMS AND MOBILE AUDIO VIDEO RECORDING SYSTEMS, DIGITALLY DOCUMENTING EVERY TRAFFIC STOP.
