HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN CALPELLA (LAW) JB 1/26/15

A CALPELLA MAN WAS THE VICTIM OF A HOME INVASION ROBBERY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO AN ADDRESS ON LAKE RIDGE ROAD IN CALPELLA AFTER A 48 YEAR OLD RESIDENT REPORTED THE ROBBERY. THE VICTIM STATED THAT AT LEAST TWO SUSPECTS ENTERED HIS HOME WHILE HE WAS SLEEPING, ASSAULTING HIM AND TYING HIM UP, AND THEN DEMANDED TO KNOW WHERE HIS MARIJUANA WAS. THE SUSPECTS LEFT IN THE VICTIMS CAR WITH ABOUT $3,000 AND LESS THAN A POUND OF MARIJUANA, HOWEVER THE CAR WAS FOUND LATER STUCK IN THE MUD ON THE VICTIMS PROPERTY WITH THE STOLEN MARIJUANA INSIDE.

CLEARLAKE PURSUIT REACHES 100 MILES PER HOUR (LAW) JB 1/26/15

A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT IN CLEARLAKE REACHING SPEEDS OF 100 MPH ENDED WITH THE ARREST OF A WANTED SANTA ROSA MAN.

THE PURSUIT BEGAN IN THE AREA OF COTTONWOOD AND WALNUT STREETS AFTER A 2013 NISSAN DRIVEN BY 33-YEAR-OLD HENRY HIKALEA SPED AWAY DURING AN ATTEMPTED TRAFFIC STOP BY A CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICER. THE CAR HAD BEEN REPORTED STOLEN OUT OF SANTA ROSA AND HIKALEA HAD AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST. THE CHASE REACHED SPEEDS OF 100 MPH THROUGH THE CITY OF CLEARLAKE, FINALLY ENDING WHEN THE NISSAN RAMMED A PATROL CAR. HIKALEA WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

FIREFIGHTERS SAVE LOWER LAKE IN FIRE (LAW) JB 1/26/15

QUICK WORK BY FIREFIGHTERS SAVED A LOWER LAKE HOME FROM DESTRUCTION IN A FIRE LAST WEEK.

LAKE COUNTY FIRE PROTECTION PERSONNEL RESPONDED TO THE BLAZE ON LAKERIDGE ROAD EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING AND FOUND THE SINGLE STORY HOME ABOUT 50 PERCENT INVOLVED. THE METAL ROOF ON THE HOME CAUSED THE FIRE TO BURN LATERALLY, PUSHING 30-FOOT FLAMES OUT OF THE FRONT OF THE HOME. FIREFIGHTERS QUICKLY CONTROLLED THE BLAZE, LIMITING FIRE DAMAGE TO THE LIVING ROOM AND THE KITCHEN. ONE PERSON WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH BURNS TO THE HANDS AND THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

UKIAH VINEYARD SELLS FOR $2.4 MILLION (ECN) JB 1/26/15

THE RECENT SALE OF A PRIME UKIAH VINEYARD THIS MONTH MAY SIGNAL A WELCOME UPSWING IN THE VALUE OF MENDOCINO COUNTY WINE COUNTRY.

ACCORDING TO THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL, A 75-ACRE PROPERTY ON OLD RIVER ROAD THAT INCLUDES 50 ACRES OF CHARDONNAY VINES RECENTLY SOLD FOR $2.4 MILLION. THE $48,000 PER PLANTED ACRE PRICE IS NEARLY DOUBLE WHAT WAS BEING PAID IN THE LATE 1990S WHEN VINEYARD PROPERTY WAS IN HIGH DEMAND. WHILE THE SELLING PRICE IS GOOD FOR MENDOCINO COUNTY, SIMILAR VINEYARD PROPERTIES IN NAPA COUNTY SELL FOR BETWEEN $200,000 TO $400,000 PER PLANTED ACRE.

POT GROW SITES INSPECTED NEAR EEL RIVER (LAW/EVR) JB 1/26/15

ENVIRONMENTAL INSPECTIONS OF SEVERAL MARIJUANA GROW SITES NEAR THE EEL RIVER WERE COMPLETED LAST WEEK.

A MULTI-AGENCY PARTNERSHIP OF STATE AND LOCAL AGENCIES CONDUCTED THE THREE DAY INSPECTION OF 14 PRIVATE PROPERTIES WITH ACTIVE MARIJUANA GROW OPERATIONS ALONG SPROUL CREEK TO ENSURE THE SAFETY TO NEARBY WATERWAYS AND WILDLIFE. DURING THE INSPECTION, STATE AND REGIONAL WATER BOARD STAFF OBSERVED A VARIETY OF POSSIBLE VIOLATIONS, INCLUDING UNLAWFUL DIVERSION AND STORAGE OF WATER AND DISCHARGE OF PESTICIDES INTO THE WATERWAYS. NO GROW OPERATIONS WERE ERADICATED DURING THE INSPECTION PROCESS.

BODY OF MISSING KAYAKER FOUND IN CLEAR LAKE (LAW) JB 1/26/15

THE BODY OF A MISSING UPPER LAKE MAN WAS RECOVERED IN CLEAR LAKE OVER THE WEEKEND.

THE BODY OF 68 YEAR OLD MICHAEL BELHUMER, MISSING SINCE DECEMBER 30, WAS LOCATED ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON BY A LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS BOAT PATROL DEPUTY. BELHUMER WAS REPORTED MISSING AFTER HE FAILED TO RETURN HOME FROM KAYAKING ON CLEAR LAKE. HIS BODY WAS LOCATED NEAR THE SHORE EAST OF CEAGO WINERY IN NICE AND AN AUTOPSY IS SCHEDULED TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF HIS DEATH.

CLEARLAKE, LAKEPORT GET POOR GRADES FOR TOBACCO (EVR) JB 1/26/15

CONGRESSMAN JARED HUFFMAN IS LOOKING TO IMPROVE HEALTH CARE ACCESS FOR VETERANS ON THE NORTH COAST.

CONGRESSMAN HUFFMAN RECENTLY SENT A LETTER TO THE SECRETARY OF VETERANS AFFAIRS URGING HIM TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE ACCESSIBILITY OF HEALTH CARE FOR VETERANS ON THE NORTH COAST UNDER THE NEW VETERANS CHOICE PROGRAM. THE CONGRESSMAN IS HOPING TO HAVE SEVERAL AREAS IN THE STATE RECLASSIFIED AS GEOGRAPHICALLY INACCESSIBLE, AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFYING RESIDENT VETERANS FOR ACCESS TO LOCAL, PRIVATE CARE PAID FOR BY THE VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION.
