TEEN ARRESTED FOR DUI AFTER HITTING BICYCLISTS (LAW) JB 2/2/15

A UKIAH TEEN WAS ARRESTED FOLLOWING A VEHICLE CRASH THAT INJURED 5 BICYCLISTS ON FRIDAY.

18-YEAR-OLD GABRIEL CHASKA RAY WAS DRIVING A 1996 HONDA ACCORD NORTHBOUND ON OLD RIVER ROAD NORTH OF HOPLAND WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. RAY FAILED TO MANAGE A CURVE IN THE ROAD AND HE STRUCK 5 BICYCLISTS WHO WERE RIDING IN A LINE CLOSE TOP THE EDGE OF THE ROADWAY. TWO OF THE RIDERS SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES AFTER BEING STRUCK BY RAYS VEHICLE, WITH THE LAST ONE HIT NEEDING TO BE EXTRICATED FROM UNDER RAYS CAR. RAY WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING FELONY DUI AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FATHER ARRESTED FOR HANDCUFFING 4 YEAR OLD (LAW) JB 2/2/15

A REPORT OF CHILD ABUSE LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A UKIAH MAN FOR INJURING A 4 YEAR OLD CHILD.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO AN ADDRESS ON WAUGH LANE LAST WEEK TO A REPORT OF CHILD ABUSE. THE SUSPECT, IDENTIFIED AS 28 YEAR OLD CHARLES BLUNT, REPORTEDLY LEFT HIS HOUSE TO GO TO A STORE, LEAVING HIS 4 YEAR OLD CHILD HANDCUFFED TO A TABLE AND NOT RETURNING UNTIL 2 AM. OFFICERS NOTICED VISIBLE INJURIES TO THE CHILD AND DETERMINED THAT BLUNT HAD DISCIPLINED THE CHILD BY STRIKING HIM WITH A COAT HANGER SEVERAL TIMES. BLUNT WAS ARRESTED ON CHARGES OF SUSPICION OF CHILD CRUELTY AND CAUSING INJURY TO A CHILD.

MENDOCINO BOS TO HEAR FROM RETIREMENT BOARD (ECN) JB 2/2/15

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL HEAR FROM THE RETIREMENT BOARD ABOUT PROPOSED RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION RATES.

ACCORDING TO THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL, THE MENDOCINO COUNTY EMPLOYEES RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION IS SCHEDULED TO MAKE A PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF ALSO ADOPTING EMPLOYEE AND EMPLOYER RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION RATES FOR THE 2015-16 FISCAL YEAR. THE RETIREMENT BOARD IS HOPING TO SET THE NEW CONTRIBUTION TO SOLIDIFY RETIREMENT FUNDING FOR COUNTY EMPLOYEES. CALCULATIONS SUGGEST THAT MENDOCINO COUNTY WILL CONTRIBUTE $18.6 MILLION FOR EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT BASED ON AN ESTIMATED $55.9 MILLION PAYROLL FOR THE NEW YEAR.

SECOND SNOWPACK SURVEY COMPLETED, RESULTS POOR (EVR) JB 2/2/15

THE SECOND MANUAL SNOWPACK SURVEY OF THE SEASON HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND THE RESULTS ARE NOT GOOD.

THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF WATER RESOURCES CONDUCTED THE MANUAL SURVEY OF THE SNOW LEVELS ON THURSDAY AND FOUND THE STATEWIDE SNOW WATER EQUIVALENT AND ONLY 25 PERCENT OF THE HISTORICAL AVERAGE. THE ABSENCE OF PRECIPITATION IN JANUARY HAS COMBINED WITH WARMER THAN AVERAGE TEMPERATURES TO PRODUCE A HEAVILY REDUCED SNOWPACK FOR AN ALREADY DROUGHT-STRICKEN STATE. IN NORMAL YEARS, THE WINTER SNOWPACK PROVIDES ABOUT 30 PERCENT OF THE STATES WATER NEEDS AS IT MELTS IN THE SPRING AND EARLY SUMMER.

DA WANTS MORE INFORMATION ON PROPOSED POT SITE (LAW) JB 2/2/15

THE MENDOCINO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY IS SEEKING MORE INFORMATION REGARDING THE PROPOSED POMO NATION MEDICAL MARIJUANA GROWING OPERATION.

THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL REPORTED THAT THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY SENT OUT A FORMAL DEMAND TO THE PINOLEVILLE POMO NATION TRIBE AND FOXBERRY SEEKING INFORMATION RELATED TO THE PROJECT, INCLUDING LAW, FINANCING AND TRANSPORTATION. FOXBERRY, A COMPANY KNOWN FOR DEVELOPING TRIBAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS, HAS REPORTEDLY PLEDGED $30 MILLION TO HELP DEVELOP THE FACILITIES AFTER THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION STATED IN DECEMBER THAT THE U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WOULD NO LONGER RESTRICT RECOGNIZED NATIVE AMERICAN TRIBES FROM GROWING OR SELLING MARIJUANA.

MISSING LAKEPORT TEEN FOUND IN GLENN COUNTY (LAW) JB 2/2/15

A 15 YEAR OLD LAKEPORT GIRL REPORTED MISSING LAST WEEK, WAS LOCATED BY AUTHORITIES AT A HOME IN GLENN COUNTY.

15 YEAR OLD KRISTEN LAYTON HAD BEEN REPORTED MISSING BY HER PARENTS THURSDAY EVENING AND POLICE BEGAN AN INTENSIVE, NONSTOP INVESTIGATION AFTER LEARNING SHE MAY BE WITH AN UNKNOWN 22-YEAR OLD MALE. THE GIRL CONTACTED HER PARENTS BY PHONE ON FRIDAY STATING SHE WAS IN THE REDDING AREA AND POLICE TRACED THE CALL TO 22-YEAR-OLD BRADLEY BURROWS WHO LIVED ON THE GRINDSTONE RANCHERIA IN ELK GROVE. POLICE LOCATED THE GIRL ON FRIDAY, WHO REPORTEDLY WENT WITH THE MAN VOLUNTARILY, AND BURROWS WAS ARRESTED FOR FELONY CHILD CONCEALMENT.

TEENS ARRESTED AFTER ROBBERY IN CLEARLAKE (LAW) JB 2/2/15

A CHASE THROUGH MULTIPLE RESIDENTIAL YARDS ENDS IN THE ARREST OF TWO TEENAGE ROBBERY SUSPECTS IN CLEARLAKE.

CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO AUSTIN PARK JUST BEFORE 11 PM ON THURSDAY AFTER A 76 YEAR OLD CLEARLAKE MAN REPORTED HE HAD BEEN ROBBED OF HIS WALLET. HE STATED THAT HE WAS HELD PHYSICALLY BY ONE SUSPECT WHILE A SECOND REMOVED HIS WALLET AND RAN OFF. WITHIN MINUTES, A CPD DETECTIVE WITNESSED THE TWO SUSPECTS WHO FLED WHEN APPROACHED. AFTER A CHASE THROUGH SEVERAL RESIDENTIAL YARDS, 18 YEAR OLD DARIUS LOUIS, A CONVICTED FELON FROM CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, AND 18 YEAR OLD CLIFFORD MCDONALD OF CLEARLAKE WERE APPREHENDED AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

NO MEASLES CASES IN LAKE, MENDOCINO COUNTIES (PI) JB 2/2/15

THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HAS CONFIRMED THAT NO MEASLES CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN LAKE AND MENDOCINO COUNTIES.

THE CDPH REPORTED THAT AS OF LAST WEEK, THERE WERE 59 CONFIRMED CASES OF MEASLES AFFECTING CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS, REPORTEDLY STEMMING FROM AN OUTBREAK LINKED TO THE DISNEYLAND THEME PARKS. ELEVEN AREAS IN THE STATE HAVE REPORTED MEASLES CASES, HOWEVER, MENDOCINO, LAKE, SONOMA AND HUMBOLDT COUNTY ARE NOT ON THE LIST OF AFFECTED AREAS. OF THE 59 CASES DOCUMENTED IN CALIFORNIA, ONLY 34 OF THEM RECEIVED VACCINATIONS AGAINST THE DISEASE IN THE PAST.
