LAKE COUNTY BACKS AWAY FROM STATE SECESSION (GOV) JB 3/4/15

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HAS REVERSED COURSE ON A DECISION TO JOIN THE STATE OF JEFFERSON MOVEMENT.

ACCORDING TO THE PRESS DEMOCRAT, LAKE COUNTY SUPERVISORS TUESDAY BACKED OFF FROM A RESOLUTION THAT SUPPORTED SECEDING FROM CALIFORNIA, INSTEAD OPTING TO ASK VOTERS WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT THE IDEA OF FORMING A NEW STATE COMPRISED OF RURAL COUNTIES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA AND SOUTHERN OREGON. WHILE SOME OF THE SUPERVISORS BELIEVE THE FORMATION OF A NEW STATE WOULD GIVE LAKE COUNTY A VOICE IN GOVERNMENT, OTHERS BELIEVE THE MOVE DIDNT MAKE SENSE FINANCIALLY. ONE SUPERVISOR STATED THAT LAKE COUNTY WOULD LOSE FUNDING IN THE SPLIT BECAUSE IT CURRENTLY BENEFITS FROM STATE REVENUE GENERATED BY LARGE URBAN AREAS.

COVELO MAN ARRESTED FOR TRANSPORTING POT (LAW) JB 3/4/15

A TRAFFIC STOP BY CHP LEADS TO THE ARREST OF A COVELO MAN WITH POUNDS OF MARIJUANA.

A CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER PATROLLING HIGHWAY 101 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON NOTICED A FORD FESTIVA TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED NEAR CLOVERDALE. DURING A TRAFFIC STOP OF THE VEHICLE, THE CHP OFFICER COULD SMELL MARIJUANA COMING FROM THE CAR AND THE DRIVER, 24 YEAR OLD COVELO RESIDENT MICHAEL EMERY, STATED HE WAS TAKING THE DRUG TO A DISPENSARY IN OAKLAND. A SEARCH OF THE CAR YIELDED 17 POUNDS OF PROCESSED MARIJUANA AND EMERY FAILED TO PROVIDE ANY PAPERWORK SHOWING HE HAD A MEDICAL PRESCRIPTION OR THAT HE WAS PART OF A COLLECTIVE AND HE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED FOR TRANSPORTATION OF MARIJUANA FORT SALE.

SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 29 (LAW) JB 3/3/15

THE DRIVER INVOLVED IN A SOLO VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 29 SUNDAY LUCKILY ESCAPED SERIOUS INJURY AFTER COLLIDING WITH A TREE.

CHP OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO HIGHWAY 29 NEAR DOTEN ROAD SUNDAY EVENING TO THE REPORT OF THE CRASH. 36 YEAR OLD JOSHUA HERPE WAS TRAVELING NORTHBOUND IN A NISSAN PATHFINDER WHEN, FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, HIS VEHICLE LEFT THE ROADWAY AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. HERPE SUFFERED A LACERATION TO HIS FOREHEAD AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO SUTTER LAKESIDE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION HOWEVER DRUGS AND ALCOHOL ARE NOT SUSPECTED TO BE FACTORS IN THE CRASH.

CURRENT SNOW SURVEY COULD BE LOWEST SINCE 1991 (EVR) JB 3/4/15

CALIFORNIAS MOST RECENT SNOW SURVEY COULD BE THE LOWEST ON RECORD SINCE 1991.

THE THIRD SNOW SURVEY IN CALIFORNIA THIS WINTER FOUND THE SIERRA NEVADA SNOWPACK FAR BELOW NORMAL AND LEANING TOWARD BEING THE LOWEST RECORDED IN MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS. THE SURVEY COMPLETED YESTERDAY FOUND THE WATER EQUIVALENT IN THE SNOWPACK OF JUST NINE TENTHS OF AN INCH NEAR ECHO SUMMIT, 90 MILES EAST OF SACRAMENTO. THE MINISCULE AMOUNT IS ONLY 5 PERCENT OF THE LONG-TERM AVERAGE FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR AND IS DOWN FROM 12 PERCENT IN THE LAST COMPLETED SURVEY.

CLEARLAKE MAN ARRESTED FOR HATE CRIME, FAKE GUN (LAW) JB 3/4/15

A CLEARLAKE MAN WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH A HATE CRIME AFTER THREATENING A NEIGHBOR.

DURING AN INVESTIGATION ON SUNDAY, CLEARLAKE POLICE LEARNED THAT 34-YEAR-OLD THOMAS GERARD BYRNE HAD BEEN CONSTANTLY HARASSING A NEIGHBOR, WHO IS OF HISPANIC DESCENT, BY CALLING HIM RACIST AND DEROGATORY NAMES. THE VICTIM TOLD POLICE THAT ON SUNDAY AFTER NOON, WHILE HE WAS IN HIS FRONT YARD WITH HIS 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, BYRNE MADE MORE RACIST COMMENTS AND THEN POINTED WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A SAWED-OFF SHOTGUN AT THE PAIR. POLICE CONTACTED BYRNE LATE SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND FOUND THE FIREARM TO BE A BB-GUN REPLICA OF A SHOTGUN AND BYRNE WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING A FELONY HATE CRIME AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

MOTORCYCLIST INJURED AFTER STRIKING GUARDRAIL (LAW) JB 3/4/15

A MOTORCYCLIST SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES SUNDAY AFTER COLLIDING WITH A GUARDRAIL ON HIGHWAY 175.

ACCORDING TO CHP REPORTS, 69-YEAR-OLD GERALD MCHUGH OF DANVILLE WAS TRAVELING ON HIS MOTORCYCLE WESTBOUND ON HIGHWAY 175 NEAR ARROYO VISTA ROAD JUST BEFORE 11 AM WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, MCHUGHS MOTORCYCLE WENT OFF THE NORTH ROADWAY EDGE AND STRUCK A GUARDRAIL. MCHUGH WAS FLOWN BY REACH TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, POSSIBLY SUFFERING FROM A BROKEN RIGHT LEG AND THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A NEW BILL INTRODUCED BY ASSEMBLYMAN BILL DODD IS AIMED TO CLOSE THE GENDER PAY GAP IN CALIFORNIA.

ON MONDAY, ASSEMBLYMAN BILL DODD INTRODUCED AB1354, A BILL REQUIRING COMPANIES THAT DO BUSINESS WITH THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO PROVIDE DATA ON EMPLOYEE INCOME BY RACE AND GENDER. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE LEGISLATION IS AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARDS GENDER PAY EQUITY IN CALIFORNIA. OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS, WOMAN WORKING FULL TIME IN THE COUNTRY HAVE CONTINUED TO EARN JUST 77 CENTS TO EVERY DOLLAR EARNED BY A MAN, WITH THE GAP EVEN GREATER FOR WOMEN OF COLOR. THE DATA COLLECTED FROM THESE COMPANIES WILL HELP TO APPROPRIATELY TARGET EFFORTS TO REDUCE AND ELIMINATE THE WAGE GAP IN THE STATE.

AFTER ONLY ACCEPTING AMERICAN EXPRESS CARDS FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS, COSTCO IS SWITCHING TO FOSTER CITY-BASED VISA AND WILL USE CITIGROUP AS ITS EXCLUSIVE PROVIDER OF CO-BRANDED CREDIT CARDS. COSTCO WILL OFFICIALLY MAKE THE CHANGE ON APRIL 1, 2016, GIVING THEIR CUSTOMERS AMPLE TIME TO APPLY FOR A NEW CARD OR BE SWITCHED OVER TO CITIGROUP WHO PLAN TO TAKE OVER THE EXISTING AMERICAN EXPRESS COSTCO CREDIT CARDS. LAST YEAR, COSTCO ACCOUNTED FOR 8 PERCENT OF AMEX BILLED BUSINESS, 10 PERCENT OF ITS CARDS ISSUED AND 20 PERCENT OF ITS WORLDWIDE LOANS.
