UKIAH EVALUATING POWER OUTAGE RESPONSE (GOV) JB 3/6/15

THE CITY OF UKIAHS RESPONSE TO THE POWER OUTAGE OVER THE WEEKEND IS BEING REVIEWED TO ADDRESS ISSUES IN THE SYSTEM.

ACCORDING TO THE UKIAH DAILY JOURNAL, WHEN THE POWER WENT OUT FOR ALL OF THE CITYS 8,100 ELECTRICAL CUSTOMERS LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON, INFORMATION OTHER THAN THAT BY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WAS NEARLY NON-EXISTENT. THE CITYS ELECTRIC UTILITY DIRECTOR STATED THAT CURRENTLY THERE IS NO STAFF ASSIGNED TO HANDLE CUSTOMER CALLS FOR INFORMATION ON THE WEEKENDS AND THE CITYS WEBSITE DOESNT EVEN LIST A NUMBER TO CALL FOR OUTAGE INFORMATION. THE DIRECTOR WOULD PREFER THERE BE A RECORDING TO PROVIDE BASIC INFORMATION ABOUT INCIDENTS DURING OFF-HOURS AND WEEKENDS BUT CURRENTLY, NO ONE IS TASKED TO PROVIDE SUCH INFORMATION.

WILLITS MEN ARRESTED AT LARGE GROW SITE (LAW) JB 3/6/15

TWO WILLITS MEN WERE ARRESTED THIS WEEK AT A MARIJUANA GROW SITE CONTAINING NEARLY 500 PLANTS.

DEPUTIES FROM THE COUNTY OF MENDOCINO MARIJUANA ERADICATION TEAM, ASSISTED BY AGENTS FROM THE MENDOCINO MAJOR CRIMES TASK FORCE AND MCSO DEPUTIES SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT ON A RESIDENCE AND PROPERTY ON BEAR CANYON ROAD IN WILLITS. DEPUTIES DISCOVERED A LARGE SCALE INDOOR MARIJUANA GROWING OPERATION CONTAINING APPROXIMATELY 489 PLANTS AND 110 POUNDS OF PROCESSED POT PACKAGED FOR SALE, AS WELL AS $3,000 IN CASH. 34-YEAR-OLD JACOB KIESEL AND 35-YEAR-OLD JOHN REARDON WERE ARRESTED AT THE LOCATION AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ROHNERT PARK ARMED ROBBERIES (LAW) JB 3/6/15

A SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED THIS WEEK IN CONNECTION WITH A SERIES OF ARMED ROBBERIES IN ROHNERT PARK.

LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS ON WEDNESDAY ARRESTED 48-YEAR-OLD DAVID MARCHANT ON SUSPICION OF ROBBING THREE DIFFERENT BUSINESSES AT GUNPOINT IN FEBRUARY. THANKS TO VIDEO SURVEILLANCE EVIDENCE, OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY MARCHANT AND HIS VEHICLE AS BEING THE MAIN SUSPECT IN THE ROBBERIES. AFTER BEING APPREHENDED DURING A TRAFFIC STOP BY DETECTIVES, A SEARCH OF MARCHANTS HOME REVEALED FURTHER EVIDENCE, INCLUDING A PELLET GUN RESEMBLING A REAL FIREARM, LINKING HIM TO THE STRING OF ROBBERIES. MARCHANT WAS BOOKED INTO THE SONOMA COUNTY JAIL ON $110,000 BAIL.

SEVERAL FT BRAGG EMPLOYEES GIVEN PINK SLIPS (ED) JB 3/6/15

THE FORT BRAGG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HELD A CLOSED MEETING THIS WEEK, RESULTING IN SEVERAL EMPLOYEES GETTING PINK SLIPS.

THE SPECIAL CLOSED MEETING ON WEDNESDAY BY THE FORT BRAGG UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS TO DISCUSS PERSONNEL ISSUES WITHIN THE DISTRICT. A DISTRICT EMPLOYEE DID CONFIRM THAT PINK SLIPS WERE GIVEN TO SEVERAL SCHOOL DISTRICT EMPLOYEES WITH MORE POSSIBLY TO FOLLOW, BUT THAT THE LAYOFF NOTICES WERE PART OF AN ANNUAL PROCESS. THE DISTRICT HAS UNTIL MAY 15 TO ISSUE FINAL NOTICES TO ANY EMPLOYEES RELEASED AND HAS THE ABILITY TO RESCIND ANY OF THE RECENTLY ISSUED TEMPORARY NOTICES IF THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO.

FT BRAGG WOMAN HAS UNLOCKED CAR LOOTED (LAW) JB 3/6/15

AFTER LEAVING HER CAR UNLOCKED TO GO TO THE MOVIES, A FORT BRAGG WOMAN FOUND THE CAR LOOTED UPON HER RETURN.

FORT BRAGG POLICE OFFICERS RECEIVED A REPORT THIS WEEK OF A THEFT OF PROPERTY FROM AN UNLOCKED VEHICLE IN THE COAST CINEMAS PARKING LOT. THE VICTIM STATED THAT, AFTER RETURNING FROM THE MOVIES, SHE REALIZED THAT HER BRIEFCASE WAS MISSING, CONTAINING HER APPLE MACBOOK PRO, NIKON DIGITAL CAMERA, AND A BOOK OF PERSONAL CHECKS. THE FORT BRAGG POLICE DEPARTMENT WANTS TO REMIND THE PUBLIC TO NEVER LEAVE VALUABLE ITEMS IN AN UNATTENDED VEHICLE AND TO ALWAYS LOCK VEHICLES WHEN UNATTENDED.

ROHNERT PARK HOUSE FIRE FINDS HASH OIL OPERATION (LAW) JB 3/6/15

A HOUSE FIRE IN ROHNERT PARK LEADS TO THE ARREST OF THE RESIDENT ON SUSPICION OF RUNNING A HASH OIL PRODUCTION OPERATION.

FIRE CREWS RESPONDED TO A RESIDENCE ON ALTA AVENUE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON TO THE REPORTS OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE ROOF OF THE HOUSE. DURING THEIR FIRE SUPPRESSION EFFORTS, FIREFIGHTERS FOUND SEVERAL BUTANE CANISTERS IN THE HOME AS WELL AS OTHER UNSPECIFIED EVIDENCE RELATED TO HASH OIL PRODUCTION. THE HOUSE SUFFERED AN ESTIMATED $100,000 IN DAMAGE AND THE SUSPECT, 33 YEAR OLD JODY PERRY, WAS ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF MANUFACTURING A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND VIOLATION OF PROBATION.

UKIAH TEEN ARRESTED FOR THREATS WITH KNIFE (LAW) JB 3/6/15

A UKIAH TEEN WAS ARRESTED THIS WEEK AFTER BRANDISHING A KNIFE AND THREATENING TO KILL A VICTIM DURING A FIGHT.

UKIAH POLICE OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO AN AREA OF SOUTH STATE STREET TO THE REPORT OF A FIGHT BETWEEN TWO MALES, ONE OF THEM ARMED WITH A KNIFE. THE ARMED SUSPECT WAS IDENTIFIED AS 19-YEAR-OLD THOMAS HANOVER, WHO REPORTEDLY HAD BEEN FOLLOWING TWO FEMALES, ATTEMPTING TO ARGUE WITH ONE OF THEM. THE MALE VICTIM ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE ARGUMENT AT WHICH TIME HANOVER DISPLAYED A KNIFE AND THREATENED TO KILL THE VICTIM. HANOVER WAS ARRESTED FOR MAKING TERRORIST THREATS AND ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

CAL FIRE CONTAINS 6 ACRE BRUSH FIRE NEAR COVELO (LAW) JB 3/6/15

CAL FIRE IS NOW REPORTING 100 PERCENT CONTAINMENT OF A BRUSH FIRE NEAR COVELO THAT SPREAD TO OVER SIX ACRES.

FIRE CREWS FROM CAL FIRES MENDOCINO UNIT RESPONDED TO THE INCIDENT WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON ON MENDOCINO PASS ROAD NEAR THE SALT ROCK CAMP. TWO CAL FIRE ENGINES, ONE FEDERAL ENGINE, TWO CREWS, ONE HELICOPTER AND A WATER TENDER WERE ALL UTILIZED DURING THE CONTAINMENT OF THE BLAZE DUBBED THE SALT FIRE THERE WERE NO STRUCTURES THREATENED NOR INJURIES REPORTED AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE AND THE CAUSE OF THE BLAZE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY FIRE OFFICIALS.
