IT TARGETS 83 WINES, PRIMARILY LOW-PRICED WHITE AND BLUSH WINES, THAT BEAR SOME OF THE BIGGEST NAMES IN THE WINE BUSINESS, INCLUDING SUTTER HOME, BERINGER, ALMADEN AND FRANZIA AND IT INCLUDES SEVERAL WINES MADE BY NORTH COAST WINE PRODUCERS FETZER, KORBEL AND DON SEBASTIANI & SONS. LAKE MENDOCINO DROPPING AGAIN (EVR) JB 3/23/15

THE WATER LEVEL IN LAKE MENDOCINO HAS BEGUN TO STEADILY DECLINE AGAIN, PROMPTING CONCERNS FROM WATER OFFICIALS AND FARMERS.

COMPARED TO LAST YEARS NEAR-RECORD LOW LEVEL, LAKE MENDOCINO APPEARS TO HAVE PLENTY OF WATER IN IT. HOWEVER, THE LAKE LEVEL HAS BEEN STEADILY DROPPING SINCE MID-FEBRUARY WHEN THE RELEASE FROM THE COYOTE DAM WAS INCREASED TO KEEP UP WITH RIVER FLOW REQUIREMENTS. THE LAKE IS LOSING APPROXIMATELY 247 ACRE FEET PER DAY, WITH ONE ACRE FOOT ABLE TO SUPPLY A HOUSEHOLD 893 GALLONS A DAY FOR A YEAR. THE CURRENT LAKE LEVEL WOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM IF A HEALTHY AMOUNT OF RAIN WAS ASSURED LATER IN THE YEAR. HOWEVER, THE STATE LOOKS TO BE HEADED INTO THE FOURTH YEAR OF THE CURRENT DROUGHT.
