WOMANS BODY FOUND ON MENDOCINO COAST (LAW) JB 4/3/15

TWO HIKERS MADE A GRISLY DISCOVERY WHEN THEY FOUND THE BODY OF A WOMAN ON THE MENDOCINO COAST ON WEDNESDAY.

MENDOCINO COUNTY AUTHORITIES STATED THAT THE WOMAN WAS FOUND DEAD ON THE ROCKS AT THE BOTTOM OF A CLIFF NEAR CASPAR POINT LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THE DECEASED WOMAN, BELIEVED TO BE IN HER 40S, WAS FOUND AT THE FOOT OF AN APPROXIMATELY 70 FOOT CLIFF. MCSO DEPUTIES WERE WORKING THURSDAY TO IDENTIFY THE WOMAN AND AN AUTOPSY WAS PLANNED TO HELP DETERMINE HER CAUSE OF DEATH. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF FOUL PLAY.

REDWOOD VALLEY FIRE DISPLACES FAMILY (LAW) JB 4/3/15

A FIRE IN REDWOOD VALLEY THURSDAY MORNING SEVERELY DAMAGED A HOME AND DISPLACED A FAMILY.

FIREFIGHTERS FROM THE REDWOOD VALLEY-CALPELLA FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THE BLAZE AROUND 9:45 THURSDAY MORNING. THE FIRE BROKE OUT ON THE PORCH OF THE MODULAR HOME LOCATED ON SCHOOL WAY. THE FAMILY LIVING AT THE HOME WAS ABLE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE WITHOUT INJURY BUT THE HOME SUSTAINED SERIOUS DAMAGE. THE RED CROSS WAS CONTACTED TO ASSIST THE DISPLACED FAMILY IN FINDING SOMEWHERE TO STAY TEMPORARILY. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

WRONG WAY DRIVER ON THE HIGHWAY (LAW) JB 4/3/15

A PURSUIT OF A SUSPICIOUS WOMAN LEADS TO HER DRIVING THE WRONG WAY ON HIGHWAY 101 BEFORE BEING APPREHENDED.

UKIAH POLICE WERE DISPATCHED TO THE 700 BLOCK OF WEST SMITH STREET, REGARDING A SUSPICIOUS FEMALE SUBJECT INSIDE A WHITE SEDAN. THIS FEMALE WAS LATER IDENTIFIED AS 24-YEAR-OLD NAOMI MANNONEN. UPON OFFICERS ARRIVAL MANNONEN BEGAN DRIVING AWAY FROM THE AREA. WHEN OFFICERS ATTEMPTED TO STOP MANNONEN SHE REFUSED TO YIELD AND A PURSUIT ENSUED. MANNONEN PROCEEDED TO LEAD OFFICERS THROUGH THE RESIDENTIAL STREETS. REACHING A SPEED OF 60 MPH. AT ONE POINT, THE SUSPECT DROVE UP A HIGHWAY OFF RAMP AND THEN DROVE SOUTH IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES ON HIGHWAY 101. THE CHASE ENDED WHEN THE SUSPECT COLLIDED WITH A DIRT EMBANKMENT AND SHE WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES INCLUDING DRUG POSSESSION AND EVADING POLICE.

OPENING WEEKEND FOR ABALONE, SALMON SEASONS (EVR) JB 4/3/15

ANGLERS AND DIVERS ON THE NORTH COAST WELCOME THE OPENING WEEKEND FOR BOTH ABALONE AND RECREATIONAL SALMON SEASONS.

ACCORDING TO THE PRESS DEMOCRAT, GUSTY WINDS AND WICKED WAVES THAT RENDERED COASTAL WATERS LARGELY INHOSPITABLE WEDNESDAY FOR THE FIRST DAY OF ABALONE SEASON ARE EXPECTED TO DIMINISH SOMEWHAT THIS WEEKEND FOR THE OPENING SATURDAY OF RECREATIONAL SALMON-FISHING SEASON. THE JOINT OPENERS MAKE THE FIRST WEEKEND IN APRIL A BIT OF A HEYDAY ON THE NORTH COAST EVERY YEAR, AS FISHING ENTHUSIASTS HEAD TO LOCAL PORTS AND COVES IN PURSUIT OF A FRESH CATCH. WHILE POOR WEATHER ALWAYS HAS THE POWER TO DAMPEN PENT-UP ENTHUSIASM FOR THE RESPECTIVE FISHING SEASONS, THE OVERLAPPING EASTER HOLIDAY COULD HAVE AN IMPACT THIS YEAR. BUT AN EVENT WITH SO MUCH INTER-GENERATIONAL TRADITION IS BOUND TO BRING OUT PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO LAID PLANS FOR THE WEEKEND LONG AGO, SOME BRAVING CONDITIONS THAT WOULD PROMPT MANY LOCALS TO PASS.

LOWER LAKE BOY DIES IN BICYCLE CRASH (LAW) JB 4/3/15

A 13 YEAR OLD LOWER LAKE BOY TRAGICALLY DIED AFTER HE CRASHED RIDING HIS BICYCLE THIS WEEK.

13-YEAR-OLD MARCEL LANG WAS RIDING HIS BICYCLE WITH HIS TWO YOUNGER SIBLINGS ON MONDAY WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. ACCORDING TO CHP REPORTS, MARCEL WAS RIDING DOWNHILL ON RIATA ROAD NEAR CABALLERO COURT WHEN HIS BIKE BEGAN TO WOBBLE. HE LOST CONTROL AND WAS EJECTED FROM THE BIKE, STRIKING HIS HEAD ON THE ROADWAY THE BOY, WHO WAS NOT WEARING A HELMET AT THE TIME, WAS FLOWN BY CALSTAR TO ST HELENA HOSPITAL CLEAR LAKE, WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. A GOFUNDME.COM SITE HAS BEEN SET UP TO MAKE DONATIONS TO THE FAMILY TO HELP PAY FOR THEIR SONS FUNERAL EXPENSES.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY AT THE HOSPICE IN UKIAH (LAW) JB 4/3/15

A UKIAH MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER ATTEMPTING TO BURGLARIZE A STORAGE BIN THE AT HOSPICE IN UKIAH.

UKIAH POLICE WERE DISPATCHED TO 401 S. STATE ST REGARDING AN ACTIVE BURGLARY IN PROGRESS. OFFICERS WERE ADVISED THAT A SUBJECT WAS SEEN ATTEMPTING TO PRY OPEN A LARGE STORAGE CONTAINER LOCATED BEHIND THE BUSINESS. UPON OFFICERS ARRIVAL THEY CONTACTED 33-YEAR-OLD WESLEY DICKSON STARTING TO LEAVE THE AREA ON A BICYCLE. DICKSON CLAIMED HE WAS ONLY IN THE AREA FOR A SHORT TIME AND THAT HE HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR DONATIONS. DICKSON WAS DETAINED AND FOUND TO BE IN POSSESSION OF MULTIPLE BURGLARY TOOLS. AFTER DETAINING DICKSON, OFFICERS SPOKE WITH THE WITNESS WHO REPORTED THAT DICKSON HAD BEEN SEEN PRYING ON THE DOORS OF THE CONTAINER IN AN ATTEMPT TO OPEN IT. OFFICERS CHECKED THE CONTAINER AND FOUND THAT THE DOOR HAD DAMAGE THAT APPEARED TO BE RECENT AND WAS CONSISTENT WITH BEING PRIED ON. DICKSON WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

CLEARLAKE MAN ARRESTED FOR DRIVE-BY SHOOTING (LAW) JB 4/3/15

A CLEARLAKE MAN BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN A CITY NEIGHBORHOOD WAS ARRESTED THIS WEEK.

CLEARLAKE POLICE OFFICERS RESPONDED TO A REPORT OF SHOTS FIRED ON TUESDAY AT AN ADDRESS ON OLEANDER STREET. THE CALLER REPORTED HEARING THREE TO FOUR GUNSHOTS AND SEEING A RED HONDA SPEED AWAY. THE CALLER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE GONE TO AN UNKNOWN ADDRESS ON TOYON STREET, WHICH IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY TWO BLOCKS FROM THE SCENE OF THE REPORTED SHOTS FIRED CALL. OFFICERS FOUND THE VEHICLE AT AN ADDRESS ON TOYON AND 24-YEAR-OLD DUSTIN KIRK-DILLARD EXITING THE HOME. A SEARCH OF THE HOME FOUND A SMALL CALIBER HANDGUN THAT KIRK-DILLARD HAD REPORTEDLY TOSSED ON A BED AS OFFICERS WERE ARRIVING AND SEVERAL SPENT SHELL CASINGS WERE FOUND IN THE HONDA KIRK-DILLARD WAS ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES AND BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY JAIL.

POSTPONEMENT OF LARGE FT BRAGG PROPANE TANK (PI) JB 4/3/15

THE INSTALLATION OF A LARGE COMMERCIAL PROPANE TANK IN DOWNTOWN FORT BRAGG HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

ACCORDING TO THE ADVOCATE-NEWS, THE FORT BRAGG PLANNING COMMISSION DECIDED LAST WEEK TO HOLD OFF ON APPROVING A DESIGN REVIEW PERMIT FOR THE INSTALLATION OF A NEW 30,000 GALLON PROPANE STORAGE TANK ON THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF EAST BUSH AND NORTH FRANKLIN STREETS. SEVERAL PEOPLE SHOWED UP TO A MARCH 25 MEETING TO VOICE CONCERN ABOUT THE TANK.

EEL RIVER FUELS RECENTLY TOOK OVER OPERATION OF THE FUEL STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION FACILITY, PREVIOUSLY OPERATED BY WALSH OIL. THE NEW PROPRIETORS PLANNED TO INSTALL A 47-FOOT LONG AND 11-FOOT WIDE PROPANE TANK, A PLAN THAT EEL RIVER FUELS STATED WAS THEIR INTENTION ALL ALONG.
