A big rig overturned on Highway 101 just south of Willits. Traffic was snarled during early morning hours and delayed mid morning traffic for about a half hour. The driver of the rig went to the hospital with minor injuries. The CHP reports Patrick Byers of Elk Grove as the driver and say he got distracted when he tried to get his coffee into its cup holder and suddenly drove onto the shoulder. He tried steering back onto the highway but the truck tipped, causing the tractor — loaded with dry foods — to flip.

A new report shows pain pills contributed to the high number of overdose deaths in California. The Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency reports for the years 2010-2012 show the county was far above the state in the amount of drug abuse indicators. There were 45 per 100,000 non-fatal opiate overdose hospitalizations compared to 20 per 100,000 for the state; And emergency room visits for overdoses were at 110 per 100,000 as compared to 60 visits per 100,000 for the state, that’s nearly twice as many. The National Safety Council and the National Institute of Drug Abuse show the total number of deaths from up from about 4,000 in 1994 to around 24,000 in 2013. There’s also been a peak in the amount of heroin use too.

The Clearlake City Council has unanimously approved money to pay for a project for Burns Valley School and the Civic Center Pedestrian Sidewalk Project. Money is being reallocated as matching funds to go with the $800,000 to $1 million Active Transportation Grant from the California Department of Transportation. The grant has not yet been approved,but the city manager says they’ve applied and feel good about their changes. Reallocated funds are from Series A bonds from the former Clearlake Redevelopment Agency. The project is part of the Lakeshore Corridor Plan to help fix safety concerns along Lakeshore Drive.

Police in Ukiah are on the lookout for someone they say stabbed another person last week on South State Street. Police say they’ve been searching for whoever’s responsible for the stabbing last Tuesday in the 900 block of South State Street around 8 p.m. The victim had multiple stab wounds to his torso. He says he was attacked by several men who were in a light-blue SUV. The victim had serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Anyone with information is asked to call 463-6262.

A man in Covelo’s been arrested for an attack on another man with a hammer. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reports a Round Valley Tribal Police Officer was at the scene responding before deputies arrived and interrupted the attack, apparently preventing the victim from more serious injuries. The suspect ran when the tribal officer arrived but was caught after a tip to police. Adam Kendall has been arrested with the help of a police dog, for attempted murder. Cops say the two men knew one another and the fight may have been over money owed by the victim. The victim had a broken wrist, fractured left eye socket and several lacerations. Kendall’s been booked into the Mendocino County Jail on $250,000.00 bail.

Some folks say they spotted a UFO during a PGA tournament in Florida. At the Players Championship portion of the PGA tour in Ponte Vedra Beach May 9th. Someone watching by television says they saw a weird object in the sky. The Mutual UFO Network reports the viewer saw blimps in the picture too and said it was definitely unidentifiable. The network says a still image of the video shows an object and a bird flying at the same time as a golf ball. The network says there was movement in the object, which could have been a bird or something with a birdlike appearance.

A would be burglar in Sarasota, Florida has been arrested after falling asleep on the job. Cops say Timothy Bontrager was busted by the homeowner who woke him up upon finding him asleep on her couch. They say he went into the home thru an unlocked sliding glass door, then when the owner of the house awakened she saw the guy, so she roused him awake and asked what he was doing. The man was arrested a couple hours later in the woods, with some of the victim’s personal items.

A buzzing noise has been quieted in a home in Queens, NY. An expert had been called to the home to find source of the loud, buzzing and stumbled into as many as 40,000 bees. The retired NYPD Detective Anthony Planakis, known as Tony Bees found the unwanted visitors. He reported there was honey dripped off a massive honeycomb there too.
