Marijuana-related charges dropped against Lake County Board of Supervisors candidate Phil Murphy with the DA saying he dismissed the charges because it would have been difficult to get a conviction. The Press Democrat reports Murphy arrested in November after Lake County deputies said they found 21 pounds of dried pot on his property. He and his girlfriend were charged with marijuana cultivation and possession for sale. Murphy says they were legally growing medical marijuana for six people and plans to petition the County Sheriff’s Office for the return of the marijuana and guns they took. He reportedly plans to sue for damages.

A woman from Ukiah may face charges for allegedly trying to sell a fawn on Craig’s List. After getting wind of the posting, State Fish and Wildlife authorities posed as buyers and took the fawn to a wildlife rescue facility in Lake County where it’s said to be in good condition. A Fish and Wildlife spokesman tells the Press Democrat they’ll recommend the Mendocino County DA charge the woman, Lacy Jean David, and her boyfriend, with unlawful possession of wildlife and attempted sale of wildlife. The boyfriend has not been named yet. David was arrested by the Fish and Wildlife agents on an unrelated warrant for suspicion of failure to appear and for allegedly being in possession of a couple of meth pipes. She’s since been released on bail.

Only another day to submit to Mendocino County’s “Medical Cannabis Activity Registration”. The Department of Agriculture reports getting 58 returned forms. The board of supervisors has another medical marijuana cultivation urgency ordinance that this is unrelated to. The county’s offering “priority processing” for local cultivation permit applications for anyone who voluntarily completes and returns the activity registration form by 5 p.m. tomorrow. But they say that won’t necessarily guarantee a permit will be issued. The county apparently hoping to find what the interest level is for folks who want to apply for cultivation permits.

A couple of groups of volunteers and employees worked their way thru overgrown brush and bushes to pull trash out of semi-remote areas around Willits. Reports of massive amounts of trash that included wrappers to electronics and spent ammunition. There were no illegal marijuana grows to be found but instead homeless camps where transients or others trying to live off the grid were discarding stuff. A code enforcement officer and the city inspector for Willits has been gathering groups for volunteer cleanups for eight years. He tells the Willits News the encampments are local people, a few even graduates of Willits High School that became homeless or simply chose to live that way.

A woman from Ukiah’s been arrested for ripping off an American flag from a veterans’ hall. Ukiah police say 41 year old Odessa O’Neil was arrested for possession of stolen property over the holiday weekend after someone saw her riding a bike carrying a flag and its pole in South Ukiah. Police went to a home she was seen going into and got the flag and arrested the woman. The flag and its pole were taken back to the Veterans Memorial Building.

It was one of those spoofs… Shaquille O’Neal’s pretending to be a Lyft driver. Lyft a ride-hailing service a-la Uber recruited the former NBA player to pretend he was a Lyft driver in Atlanta for a YouTube video. In the video you can see O’Neal going by names like Charles, Peter and Goose, talking, rapping rhymes and singing with riders while disguised in different outfits and wigs. At the end of the nearly four-minute clip they laugh together when they learn O’Neal’s true identity.

Team Lake County looking to add more board members and case managers. The organization helping Valley Fire survivors but they currently only have four people working case management for more than 900 hundred people needing assistance. Some helping are volunteers, and others are paid staff provided by the United Methodist Committee on Relief, or UMCOR. They need volunteers currently as they don’t have the money to pay for more case managers. The last Valley Fire Task Force meeting it was noted the team was hoping to team up with other organizations or agencies to help locals.

Gov. Jerry Brown says he’s getting behind Hillary Clinton for the Tuesday Presidential primary. Brown says Clinton has the presidential nomination wrapped up and says other Democrats should band together to keep control of the White House. He wrote an open letter to California Democrats and Independents saying he’s voting for Clinton because he thinks it’s the only way forward to win the presidency and stop the dangerous candidacy of Donald Trump.

The Sonoma State University’s police chief is being investigated and has been relieved of his duties. Police say Nathan Johnson, the school’s longtime chief is being investigated for firing a handgun into the wall of his home while fighting with his stepson, who had stab wounds they say were caused by a power drill in their fight. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office says Johnson had a head wound and the stepson had several puncture wounds in his chest and a possible collapsed lung. Johnson says the shot he fired was a warning shot to end the fight.

A kid in Massachusetts calls to tell police his dad ran a stoplight. The Quincy Police Department says the boy called 911 to report dad ran a red light. The dept. posted it on their Facebook page. It says the boy told a dispatcher: “Daddy went through a red light.” He went on to describe their car in detail, saying it’s "a brand-new car, my mummy’s car.” The dispatcher asked what else happened and the 5 year old said they went to a car wash. Then dad got on the phone and apologized for the call.
