The Governor has veto’d a bill that would have waived taxes on tampons and other feminine hygiene products. Brown veto’d seven tax breaks he says would have meant a loss of up to $300 million a year. The Gov. says tax breaks are the same as spending, both taking money from the General Fund. Some female lawmakers looking to add Calif. to a list of other states scrapping the "tampon tax," which they say is an unfair burden on a necessary hygiene product which is not a luxury.

A public hearing’s being held by the Ukiah Planning Commission on the proposed ordinance to allow marijuana dispensaries in all commercial zones, which includes the downtown core. The staff report for tonight’s meeting shows the proposed ordinance created by an ad-hoc committee which included the Vice-Mayor Jim Brown, Council member Maureen Mulheren, former Planning Director Charley Stump, City Attorney David Rapport and Ukiah Police Chief Chris Dewey. The committee put together after a trio of bills were signed into law by the Gov., the Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act. The Planning Commission meeting at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers.

A short update has been delivered to the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors regarding the progress in the county’s adult mental services situation. The Health and Human Services Agency CEO Tammy Moss Chandler went before the supervisors saying the state’s conducting a regular in-depth review of the county’s mental health programs. That means a report should be done the end of next month. She told the supervisors the consulting firm, Kemper, has been to town to work on a memo of understanding for county departments dealing with mental health.

No vote yet on Municipal Advisory Councils as the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors asked staff to come back to them with a clean copy of the policy. The supervisors looking to eliminate the councils to have resolutions when expressing themselves to those outside of their board. The councils are made up of groups of volunteers who work on the future of the towns they work for, through the zoning and the planning process. The latest was put together in Redwood Valley several towns people found out a Dollar General store was approved and it was beyond their control.

Police in Ukiah searching for whoever fired a gun into a group of people at an apartment complex. Police say they got a call Sunday night to the 800 block of South Orchard Avenue just before midnight and when they got there they found multiple people and others who had pulled up in cars to the complex. They say “multiple shots were fired" and two hit the apartment complex and were in the direction of several people. There were no injuries, the cars left the scene and detectives say it may have been gang related.

Two men have been arrested in a cold case where two girls were killed but new DNA testing linked men to the case. Larry Don Patterson of Oakhurst and William Lloyd Harbour of Olivehurst were arrested in connection to the 1973 killings of two girls. Police say newly tested evidence connected the two 65-year-old men. The Yuba County sheriff’s office says both men were 22 and living in Olivehurst at the time. That’s where the two girls, 12-year-old Valerie Lane and 13-year-old Doris Derryberry lived. They were reported missing after not coming back from the mall. Their bodies were found along a dirt road near Marysville.

A man in Hopland who called police to say he was holding a couple of car burglars at gunpoint was himself arrested. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s office reports going to the scene and finding that the so called burglars were apparent figments of the man’s imagination. Bobby Fackrel was arrested on suspicion of being armed while under the influence of a controlled substance and other drug and firearms-related charges.

A woman from Willits who admitted she lied under oath at her embezzlement trial in April has been resentenced. Christine Kelsay got eight years, eight months in prison. She had earlier been sentenced to four years in county jail and a year of supervised probation after being convicted of stealing nearly $500,000 over seven years from her employer, Geigers Long Valley Market in Laytonville. But in July she pleaded to more charges for perjury and creating false financial declarations in family law court. There were nearly 2 dozen instances of perjury.

A man seen lurking in bushes in Clearlake with a loaded shotgun has been arrested. Police say they got a tip from someone making roof repairs. Carl Duval arrested on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and for drug-related charges after cops say they saw him hiding in heavy brush near Eighth Street. The witness told police the man was arguing with someone else and threatened the other man saying he was going to shoot him. A loaded shotgun was found and Duval taken into custody.

Police in Lakeport asking for the public’s help finding a runaway boy. 15 year old Christopher Vetter has not been seen since Saturday. Police say he may be in Clearlake. He’s described as being 5 foot 4 inches tall and about 105 pounds, with brown eyes and brown hair. He was last seen in dark wash-faded jeans, a baby blue t-shirt and gray Converse shoes. Anyone who may have seen the teen is asked to call their local law enforcement agency, send a private message on Facebook on the agency’s page at @LakeportPolice, or by sending an anonymous message through Nixle on a cell telephone by texting the words TIP LAKEPORT followed by your message to 888777.

A woman in Indiana says she found out she had 8 siblings after a commercial DNA test. So she looked further into it and found out her biological father was actually her mom’s fertility doctor. Court papers sayDr. Donald Cline told his patients he was inseminating them with "fresh sperm" from a medical student or resident. Now he’s in trouble with the law, entering a not guilty plea to charges of obstruction of justice.

A woman who got a flat tire on her limo on the way to her wedding, hitchhiked it in her gown. Angelique Arsenault boldly put out her thumb and got herself a ride in Milford New Hampshire Saturday. She got to the altar, ½ hour late.
