Forest Fire managers in the Mendocino National Forest have announced prescribed burns on the Grindstone Ranger District. The prescribed fires help reduce possible severe wildfires in the future, increase firefighter safety, remove hazardous fuels, and protect communities and watersheds. They may continue through winter under appropriate conditions. Areas of Glenn, Tehama and Colusa counties, Elk Creek, Paskenta, Willows, Ladoga, the South Fork Stony Creek watershed and the Upper Little Stony Creek watershed will have burns.

Grant awards have been announced for counties in Calif through the Emergency Solutions Grant program for new housing, emergency shelter and more. Sen. Mike McGuire’s been working with state agency leaders, local nonprofits and city and county officials on the matter and the California Housing and Community Development dept. has announced the awards that will now come to Mendocino, Lake and Humboldt counties. Senator McGuire says the money will be invested in homeless services. North Coast Opportunities will distribute funds in Lake County and three projects in Mendocino County as well.

A teenager’s been arrested for one of those creepy clown threats. The Modesto Bee reports ( the kid used a clown-themed Twitter name and posted something on Instagram last Wednesday saying he was going to go to Escalon High School the next day to kill kids. Police say there was a picture with the post of a blood-stained bed. They arrested the teen and booked him into the San Joaquin County juvenile hall on suspicion of making terrorist threats and causing a false emergency to be reported.

The Clearlake City Council has nearly a dozen marijuana abatement appeals on their agenda at a special meeting. That means there are now about 30 appeal hearings to be considered by city leaders. Police have been working to rid the city of commercial grows, so at the meeting today, they will consider the non-permitted grows of more than the legal maximum of six plants. Some were in areas where grows are just not allowed too. The hearings started early last month with the city council denying each of them, but one. But that grower only got a continuance. The meeting tonight at 6p in City Hall.

Two people have been arrested and almost 150 pot plants taken after cops go out to reports of a weapon being shown in Clearlake. Police say Maria Cano and Erick Guzman, both of Clearlake were arrested after police went out to reports of a shotgun being waved around. The victim in the report was not hurt and said it was related to a pot garden on their property. The woman accused of showing the weapon said it wasn’t real, but then couldn’t show deputies the weapon. 2 other people were seen running away during the discussion with police, but were not caught. Cano and Guzman were arrested and about 144 marijuana and 3 pounds of processed marijuana and drug dealing paraphernalia and ammo was taken.

A young man from Clearlake’s been killed and another arrested for DUI after a weekend rollover crash near Lower Lake. 19 year old Nick Mittelstedter died in the one car crash Friday night. The CHP arrested 19 year old Jeramy Isom of Clearlake after the 2006 Toyota Tacoma crashed off Morgan Valley Road. One of the three passengers in the truck died at the scene, the other two had injuries, including a moderate head injury and a minor injury to the other who complained of neck pain.

Thousands of spectators in Maine to watch honeymooners of sorts, in an obstacle course race. The North American Wife Carrying Championship in Newry over the weekend had men carrying their wives over the over an obstacle course with log hurdles, sand traps and water hazards, all for beer and cash prizes. There were 50 teams participating with married and unmarried couples. The winner getting the weight of his “wife” in beer and five times her weight in cash.

A dad in Massachusetts in trouble with the law after he wore a scary clown mask then followed his middle school aged child’s school bus. Police in Auburn say some of the kids were so scared they hid under a deck in a backyard. Cops posted a picture on their Facebook page last week saying they were going after charges against the dad for disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

A man in Potter Valley’s been arrested after a woman reported he assaulted her. The Mendocino County Sheriff office gets a call last Sunday to the domestic violence incident where the woman claims her live in boyfriend, Robert Bosche got violent, slamming doors and scaring her. She left the apartment overnight then went back to grab her belongings and says Bosche attacked her and threw her on the floor, threatening to kill her. Police say it wasn’t the first time he attacked the girlfriend. She had visible injuries this time and Bosche was found and arrested in Calpella (Cal-pell-uh) and held without bail due to a probation violation.

A man in Laytonville’s been arrested for drug dealing. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Dept. reports Richard Franciskovich seen on the side of the highway with more than five pounds of marijuana, a pound of it being packaged for sale. Franciskovich was arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and booked into the Mendocino County Jail and held on $25,000.00 bail.

A man in Fort Bragg’s been arrested after a burglary. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office goes out to a call where someone who says they’re the caretaker of a house reported someone came in through an open window and a leg sticking out of the window last Sunday. Deputies searched and found a man in the garden of the home. Jeffrey Bennatts was arrested after deputies found several items had been stolen and linked the guy to the ripoff. He’s charged with First Degree Residential Burglary and held on $50,000.00 bail.
