The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has resumed sales of zip ties for Medical Marijuana. The zip ties are voluntary and help identify legal marijuana plants in the field, saving Deputies time when they come across them. The program was temporarily halted while the Board of Supervisors worked on the new county ordinance. The Sherriff’s Office says although that ordinance is not done it won’t affect those growing legitimate medical marijuana for personal use. To get the voluntary zip ties you must come to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office stations in Ukiah or Fort Bragg and bring a valid medical recommendation and current photo ID.

A guy who broke into a car in Ukiah and stashed what he stole to get it later has been caught picking it up. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says last Wednesday someone reported a theft from a car at the Talmage Bridge at the Russian River. The owner reported a chain saw and fuel can missing. Deputies found them hidden in the brush about 30 yards from the car. So with the help of Ukiah Police, they set up surveillance and about 2 hours later a vehicle pulled up and loaded up the saw and fuel can. Dale Kleinsorge was arrested for Vehicle Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property and Felony Vandalism. Deputies also found meth in his car.

Caltrans should have a better idea this week of when a slide blocking part of Highway 101 north of Leggett will be stabilized enough to open all lanes. A stretch of 101 about 6 miles north of Legget has been under one-way traffic control since last Thursday. The slide knocked dirt and boulders into the existing catchment fence, which bent out into the northbound lane. A Caltrans spokesman tells the Ukiah Daily Journal they are clearing the debris and fixing the fence but they are waiting for geologists to determine the hillside is safe before they reopen both sides of the highway. For now you should expect 20- to 30-minute delays.
