Good news as a missing Lakeport man has been found safe. Lakeport Police say Gilbert Navas came home this afternoon after being reported missing yesterday when he failed to show up for a doctors’ appointment. After police sent out a description of Mr. Navas they got a call that he’d been seen in the Bay Area, renting a car in San Francisco and then checking into a motel in San Jose. San Jose Police went to the motel this morning but Navas had already left and the CHP issued a Silver Alert out of concern that he was disoriented and confused. Lakeport Police now say he came home around 2pm today.

A choking fit is said to have led to a tractor-trailer crashing into the Hopland Tap House early this morning. The Hopland Fire Chief says around 4am the semi with double trailers hauling sawdust slammed into the building with the driver, who is reportedly from Willits, telling emergency responders he was drinking coffee when he started coughing and choking and lost control. He was able to crawl out of the wreckage on his own but the Chief says he suffered “major injuries”. No one else was hurt. Crews are still planning how to clear the truck, as they have to shore up the historic building so there is no further damage to it when they move the truck.
