The revised Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Costco on Airport Park Boulevard in Ukiah is done and ready for public review. It will be up on the City of Ukiah website until March 29. The Ukiah City Council had to redo it because of a 2014 lawsuit that was mostly tossed out but did contain one reason a judge found for a new EIR – that the way the energy usage for the proposed store was calculated wasn’t correct. The City’s Interim Planning Director tells the Ukiah Daily Journal the delay has not dulled Costco’s interest in the project and once the public comment period is over, his staff will start preparing for hearings on it.

Felony vandalism and attempted burglary charges could be filed against a Willits man deputies say broke into a vending machine Thursday morning. The machine was alarmed and deputies responded, and saw Jeffrey Ashline standing at the machine in a front of a business on North State Street in Ukiah. Deputies found nearby a large crowbar and a small portable torch. They say damage to the machine was around $3,000.

Three people with felony warrants have been rounded up in a couple of traffic stops in Covelo. Saturday night Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were on routine patrol when they stopped a car for a traffic violation near Highway 162 and Barnes Lane. A records check showed both the driver, Jose Mejia, and the passenger, Bridgette Frank, had outstanding warrants, with Mejia having three of them. Mejia was being held on $125,000 bail and Frank on $25,000. Later the same night deputies stopped Joseph Hoagland on Tabor Lane and Little Lake Way for a traffic violation and found he had an outstanding felony warrant for several charges including robbery, using a firearm in a felony and failure to appear. He was being held with no bail.

The Lake County Board of Supervisors will host another workshop on a draft ordinance to govern cannabis cultivation and commercial activities tomorrow afternoon. It’s part of the Board’s regular meeting that starts at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, in the board chambers at the Lake County Courthouse but based on the agenda the workshop will not start until about 1 p.m. This is the third workshop the Supervisors have held on the draft ordinance.
