The jury has found a Willits man guilty of felony battery in relation to the death of a man he punched at a bar in Laytonville last summer. The jury found Charles Wallace Reynolds guilty of Felony Battery Causing Serious Bodily Injury and a special allegation of Personally Inflicting Great Bodily Injury on Kenneth Wayne Fisher at Boomer’s Saloon in August. Reynolds hit Fisher once to the side of his head, tearing his vertebral artery, causing a deadly hemorrhage. Reynolds was originally arrested and charged with murder but Mendocino County District Attorney David Eyster later determined the evidence did not support the murder charge. Reynolds will be sentenced May 10.

You will see a lot of emergency vehicles in front of Ukiah High School Thursday morning as the California Highway Patrol simulates a drunk driving traffic accident as part of their Every 15 Minutes program. The mock collision will take place for about one hour starting at 9am but Despina Avenue will be closed for several hours to set up the scene. Every 15 Minutes is a two-day program that demonstrates to high school students the impact that drinking and driving has on friends, families, and the community. The first day includes a simulated crash in which someone dies and all the police, fire, ambulance, and coroner involvement that would really happen. The program ends Friday with a mock funeral and student assembly.
