A Santa Rosa man is wanted for Attempted Homicide for allegedly shooting a 19-year-old man Tuesday morning in Covelo. The victim drove himself to the Covelo Fire Department and from there was taken to a hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened at a home on Zenia Road on land belonging to the Round Valley Tribes. The victim says he’d gone there and was confronted by the suspect, Paulino Marin, who he says had a rifle and started yelling at him. The victim says as he drove away, Marin fired at him, hitting the car several times and hitting him in the chest. The Sheriff’s Office brought out the Interagency SWAT Team, and the Marijuana Eradication Team while on the search for Marin who they say was setting up a commercial marijuana growing operation with nearly 800 plants. The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone with information on Paulino Marin contact them.

Looks like Highway 101 in northern Mendocino County will be closed until at least Friday after all. One Caltrans spokesman said Tuesday they had hoped to get a lane open today (Weds) but another spokesman said today unstable soils are continuing to slide and hindering the cleanup. Crews are trying to remove more than 6,000 cubic yards of rocks and soil that came down sometime late Sunday night onto a two-lane section of the highway about six miles north of Leggett, in a spot that was already undergoing repairs since a landslide last month. Caltrans spokesman Phil Frisbie says the current slides are likely from not just the heavy rains but also the extreme temperature changes between storms.
