Governor Jerry Brown has appointed Georgeanne Croskey of Willits to fill the Mendocino County supervisor seat of Tom Woodhouse who resigned in January. Croskey is a veterinarian at Mendocino County Equine and Livestock was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force from 2000 to 2005. She will serve the remaining two years of Woodhouse’s term. The Press Democrat reports Croskey, who has no political experience, was chosen over other candidates who do. While the Governor’s office does not reveal that list, the paper reports it included former Willits City Councilwoman Holly Madrigal and former County Supervisor John Pinches. It’s been more than 30 years since a governor appointed a Mendocino County supervisor. The last time was in 1983, when Governor George Deukmejian appointed Marilyn Butcher to replace Tom Crofoot who’d been appointed to a state post.

A Clearlake man’s been arrested for leading police on a high-speed chase from Calistoga to Clearlake Sunday night. Mario Tito Mirabella, who bailed out of the vehicle and ran, was caught by Clearlake Police K9 ”Bear” while hiding in a trailer. The chase started when a Calistoga Police officer attempted to pull Mirabella over but he took off northbound on Highway 29. The CHP and a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy joined in with Mirabella sometimes going more than 110 and at one point allegedly driving directly at a police car, swerving very close to it. He left the car and ran at Peony Street and was caught a short time later. Mirabella arrested on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and resisting arrest. Lake Co News reports Mirabella was also involved in a chase in Clearlake in 2015. In that one he led Clearlake Police on 27-mile chase in a stolen car which he crashed into a tree.

Heads up for a prescribed burn next week in the Upper Lake Ranger District. Fire Managers say it will be a 45-acre unit of the Howard Mill Prescribed Fire project, which is about five miles north of Upper Lake. Crews are planning the burn day between May 15 and May 17, depending on the weather and other environmental conditions. Smoke may be visible from Highway 20, Upper Lake and surrounding areas but they say the burn area is predominantly timber with pine litter understory, so the smoke should disperse quickly once it’s done.
