The Upper Lake School District officially has a new leader. Last night the School Board unanimously approved a four-year contract with veteran school administrator Dr. Giovanni Annous who officially begins work on July 1. Lake County News reports Annous, who is from Southern California, has been in the district this week meeting with officials and touring facilities, and also working on finding a home for his family. The contract gives the new supe a base salary of $145,000 per year plus benefits.

Lakeport Police are offering a heads up about the upcoming Sprint Boat Grand Prix that runs from Friday, June 2nd through Sunday, June 4th along the Clear Lake Sprint Boat Course adjacent to Library Park. There will be parking restrictions starting at Third, East of Park St. and extending up to the North parking lot at Fifth, and street closures will include Fourth at Main and Fifth at Main. In addition the Third St. and Fifth St. boat ramps will be closed although the boat ramp at Clearlake Avenue will be open during the event, as will some others in Lakeport, Kelseyville, Nice, and Lucerne. The Lakeport Police Department has set up a special Nixle notification system for the Sprint Boat Grand Prix. To receive updates and information you can text the word sprintboat to the number 888777.

Congratulations to the Ukiah High School Choir for earning First Place in their division at Music in the Parks Festival. The Concert Choir and Vocal Ensemble, accompanied by Janice Timm, traveled to Fairfield for the Festival, where they placed first and second in their respective divisions. Choir Director Joshua Small says both ensembles even outdid themselves, beating their owns scores from last year.
