Several coastal agencies have helped to rescue a woman who fell onto some rocks from a bluff at Portuguese Beach this afternoon. The Press Democrat reports the woman fell about 12 feet down onto the rocks. Coast fire agencies and paramedics and the Sonoma County sheriff’s office helicopter responded. The beach parking lot had to be closed while rescuers lowered a litter and hoisted the woman to safety. No word yet on the extent of her injuries.

Fresh off the celebration for building their 20th home in Lake County, Habitat for Humanity is getting ready to dedicate their 21st. Habitat Lake County says several friends, volunteers, and staff members turned out last Saturday to dedicate the new home for the Pantoja family in Clearlake. Ground was broken on the house right before the Clayton fire last year, so it took longer than usual to get it done. This Saturday June 10th they will dedicate a home on Toyon St. in Clearlake for the Gwin family. You are invited to join in at Noon to celebrate as well as learn how you can get involved with Habitat for Humanity, if you want to volunteer, or see if you qualify for a home.

A team of ten women supported by MCHC Health Centers is heading to San Francisco next month to raise money for increased access to care for local breast cancer patients. The group called the “Mendo Mashers” will spend July 8th and 9th doing the AVON 39: Walk to End Breast Cancer two-day fundraiser where participants walk 39.3 miles. This is the second year MCHC Health Centers has supported the team whose members you will likely see training in long walks over the next few weekends in Potter Valley, along the coast, and soon an 18-mile walk from Ukiah to Hopland. While their goal is $11,000, last year they raised more than $18,000.
