The wife of a Ukiah man arrested on suspicion of child molestation has been arrested for allegedly threatening a witness. Jaime Barajas was arrested June 9th after it was reported that he’d molested a 14-year-old girl over a long period of time. An investigation revealed a second teenage victim and the potential for more, some of them possibly spanning several years. He was being held on $1.4 million bond. Ukiah Police say they also learned that his wife, Shannon Barajas, had reportedly threatened a witness in relation to the investigation. She was arrested for Felony Attempt to Dissuade a Witness and as of this afternoon was being held on $25,000 bond. Ukiah Police have also added another victim to the case: a 41-year-old woman from Ukiah.

A small fire has brought out a big response in a high-potential fire area near Cloverdale. The Press Democrat reports local and state fire crews came out around 1130am and notified residents in the nearly 100-home subdivision that they needed to get ready for possible evacuation. A Car Fire Chief told the paper they don’t know yet what started the fire but it began inside a yurt on someone’s property and spread to the surrounding grassland and oak woods, which are already very dry. A Cal Fire air attack plane, two air tankers and a helicopter were brought in along with five fire engines and hand crews. The Chief says they don’t expect it to spread but they’re not taking any chances.
