Firefighters are gaining ground on a fire that broke out in the Cow Mountain area today. The Mendocino Sheriff’s Office says as of 4pm it was at 20 acres with containment increasing. Cal Fire initially responded around 1pm with two air tankers, one copter, one dozer, one water-tender, and four engines but more resources have steadily been added.

Evacuations remain for the Baker Creek Subdivision for the Grade Fire that started Sunday. Cal Fire had it at 900 acres and 25% containment as of this afternoon. Evacuation warnings were lifted for other areas last night. Baker Creek Road is still closed but Highway 101 is open at the Willits Grade. When the current evacuation warning is lifted, the Sheriff’s Office will issue an alert to the affected residents and will notify the public through the media and social media. Also, MCSO is asking the public not to call their front desk or dispatch unless absolutely necessary. Instead they say for the most up-to-date information you can go to: Mendocino Sheriff on Facebook, the Cal Fire Incident Page Website and Cal Fire Mendocino Unit on Twitter.

Three men arrested for a robbery at a marijuana farm on Hwy 162 in Covelo. The victims said between five and eight people stormed onto the farm in several vehicles around 2:30 Sunday morning claiming to be police. One victim figured out pretty quickly they weren’t cops and ran to call 911. Some Mendocino Sheriff’s Deputies were already nearby and found one the suspects’ trucks with guns and stolen property inside it. Another victim was found in the home and was not hurt but said he’d been forced at gunpoint into a truck to help the suspects steal pot plants. Mendocino SWAT searched the woods and about 8 hours later arrested Daniel Hernandez-Sanchez, Matthew Sturges, and Alejandro Nunez for Armed Robbery, Kidnap for Ransom and Criminal Conspiracy.
