The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Fire Danger for Mendocino and Lake Counties due to expected extreme heat, dryness and wind conditions. They say gusty east winds will develop tonight and continue through Friday morning with sustained speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts up to 20 mph. Combined with the low relative humidity and high temperatures, those winds could contribute to extreme fire behavior. They ask everyone to be very cautious and fire safe. An Excessive Heat Warning is in place until Monday with temps in the 100’s.

As for the smoke and haze currently visible throughout Lake County, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office says it’s the result of smoke coming into the area from the Helena Fire in Trinity County.

A man who left his ID behind after allegedly stealing from a store has been arrested. Willits Police responded to the Village Market Tuesday night where an employee said the suspect had walked out of the store with several items without paying. When the employee confronted him, the suspect began to fight over the stolen items but when police were called he took off. But when he ran he left behind the bag full of items he’d tried to steal along with his ID card. Kevin Betts of Willits was found a few blocks away near another store and arrested for robbery.

It’s “flu” season and the Lake County Public Health Division has announced its community flu vaccination clinic schedule.
