State Sen. Mike McGuire’s legislation so there are statewide emergency alerts set up gets bipartisan approval in the State Senate. The senator has the support of Senators Bill Dodd and Jerry Hill and co-authors Assemblymembers Cecilia Aguiar-Curry, Marc Levine and Jim Wood. McGuire says fires are getting worse in Calif and lives depend on lawmakers and the Governor moving fast to make sure there are statewide emergency alert standards adopted along with training for local emergency managers and a more proactive and effective mutual aid response system. The bill, if it passes, would mean statewide emergency alert standards are in place in all of California’s 58 counties for the first time ever using the federal integrated public alert and warning system, known as IPAWS.

Six mayors from states with legalized marijuana are calling on the federal government to drop cannabis from a list of illegal drugs. Mayors from across the country got together over the weekend in Boston and six of them from Denver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and West Sacramento sponsoring a resolution at the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Later a unanimous approval was reached by a larger gathering. The mayor of Denver a leader of the coalition says they have experience in the new marijuana industry and can help Congress to support other local governments. It comes after the president said he might back a bipartisan congressional effort to ease the U.S. ban which has pot on the same level as LSD and heroin.
