A body found in a Northern Calif. landfill has been identified. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department reports the decomposed body was that of 23-year-old Karina Banta of Hayward. She was found dead in rural Livermore New Year’s Eve. There were no injuries on her to indicate she was murdered, according to an autopsy so her death is so far listed as undetermined until toxicology results are returned, which could take some time. Police say the young woman had a history of mental health and substance abuse issues and had been homeless in the past. Her last contact with her family was back in November. Police say they think she may have died elsewhere, maybe even inside a large trash bin which was carried with waste to the landfill.

A man arrested in Redding after cops say he was driving drunk and hit the back of a police car. Police identified the driver as Jason Snider of Redding. His blood alcohol content tested at above the .08 percent rate after he was arrested. The officer who busted him says he was in his patrol car and saw Snider in a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse which rear ended his patrol car at a high rate of speed. Then he turned the car around and went off the road, lost control and crashed. The CHP went to the scene and reported the guy showed “obvious signs of intoxication” so he was arrested and booked into the Shasta County jail. The officer rear-ended went to the hospital for minor injuries.
