Several explosions at a home in hills above Ukiah. The Press Democrat reports fire crews went out to a remote area this morning with police to investigate. There were unconfirmed reports of a home off Orr Springs Road fully engulfed in flames when emergency responders got there this morning around 8. The newspaper reports the Cal Fire Howard Forest Station from Willits, City of Ukiah Fire, Redwood Valley-Calpella Fire and Cal Fire were all responding. Also deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and officers from Cal Fire’s prevention division got a call to the scene too. The incident is being called non-criminal, so some of the officers were called back.

A judge in Sacramento County Superior Court is saying no to the state Department of Water Resources’ asking for parts of lawsuits over the Oroville Dam crisis to be stricken. The state reportedly trying to get parts of the language in the lawsuit taken out so they wouldn’t be considered in court including racist actions, sexual harassment and petty theft by agency employees. Lawyers for several plaintiffs arguing the charges were relevant related to the spillway failure and subsequent evacuations in February 2017. A lawyer for plaintiffs says a toxic workplace culture at the dept. cannot be ignored. The lawsuits have a tentative trial date of June 2020.

A man busted in Fort Bragg for driving drunk and crashing into a UPS truck. Police say a CHP officer saw the crash February 27th and found Herbert Engel didn’t stop for a stop light at the intersection of N. Main Street and Elm Street. They say he went into the intersection even though there was a red light and barely missed a CHP Officer waiting to turn, then crashed into the UPS truck. There was minor damage to the UPS truck and major damage to Engel’s car. But no injuries were reported. Engel was found to be under the influence of alcohol, including having open containers of booze in the car. After field sobriety tests were done, Engel was arrested Driving Under the Influence.

A man found with cuts on his face busted in Fort Bragg for a ripoff. Police say they got a call February 28th to The Outdoor Store for a burglary in progress. They found Jeremiah Eckel leaving the store carrying merchandise. They say they immediately arrested him, then took him to the hospital for the lacerations he had because he forced entry into the store by tossing a rock thru a window. Cops say he then stole a bunch of merchandise thru the broken window. He was taken to jail after being medically cleared by the hospital. Police say he showed signs of a possible mental health illness and being under the influence of a controlled substance while being arrested.
