If you had a chance to be a part of the zoom audience last week, you saw the Lake County Board of Supervisors at their weekly meeting. It took place in the Lakeport Chambers and the board heard what was basically updates and an overview of the 2050 general plan and local area. In addition, there was discussion of what to do with excess proceeds from the County Tax Collector. These plans involve a number of processes including assessments and reviews like the California Environmental Quality Act review. It’s a three year process beginning right now with community engagement and continuing through Fall of 2026. In order to gather as much data as possible, the county has partnered with Americorps and other organizations to facilitate community meetings, events, and canvassing the community. The public is encouraged to participate in these meetings or reach out via the website lakecounty2050.org.

You need to know of some road projects that will be taking place around the North Coast this week. Caltrans has reported that the Mendocino County projects may very well affect Lake County commuters and possibly work in Del Norte and Humboldt counties as well. Obviously, in these areas, Caltrans says drive with caution, be prepared to stop in traffic control areas and realize you will need to slow down. Know that the Caltrans Traffic Operations Office has reviewed each project and determined that individual project delays are expected to be less than the statewide policy maximum of 30 minutes unless noted otherwise. To get route updates, check QuickMap at www.DOT.ca.gov.

It was a bit of a surprise, but it appears that Mendocino County District Attorney David Eyster has hired an outside prosecutor who will be the one to oversee a felony case that targets suspended county Auditor Chamise Cubbison and former county Payroll Manager Paula June Kennedy. The hire is Traci Lewis Carrillo. She is a former Sonoma County deputy district attorney who is now in private practice. She is taking over the case as special prosecutor. Two reasons this is a surprise – one is how much it will cost taxpayers and secondly, there is no knowledge of how long the contract is with Carrillo. Eyster’s hiring of an outside prosecutor now is raising questions about whether a preliminary hearing scheduled in less than three weeks for Cubbison and Kennedy can proceed. Carrillo says she is prepared to proceed with the hearing.
