  • A REDWOOD VALLEY MAN WAS ARRESTED ON FRIDAY FOR ALLEGEDLY MOLESTING THE 15 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER OF HIS GIRLFRIEND TWO WEEKS AGO.

THE VICTIM TOLD POLICE THAT SHE HAD BEEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED WHILE SHE WAS SLEEPING ON JANUARY 18TH BY HER MOTHERS LIVE IN BOYFRIEND, 25 YEAR OLD RYAN WADE, WHILE HER MOTHER WAS AT THE STORE. SHE TOLD POLICE SHE WOKE UP DURING THE ASSAULT AND WADE STOPPED, TELLING HER NOT TO TELL ANYONE. DURING AN INTERVIEW, WADE ADMITTED TO THE SEXUAL CONTACT, BUT CLAIMED IT WAS CONSENSUAL. HE ALSO ADMITTED TO KNOWING THAT HAVING SEXUAL CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM WAS ILLEGAL, BUT DID IT ANYWAY.

DIAMOND SPORTING GOODS BURGLARIZED OF GUNS JKB 1/31/12

  • DIAMOND SPORTING GOODS ON NORTH STATE STREET IN UKIAH WAS BURGLARIZED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, WITH THE THIEF OR THIEVES MAKING OFF WITH SEVERAL FIREARMS.

A CITIZEN REPORTED A BROKEN SIDE DOOR AT THE STORE AT 5:25 AM. ACCORDING TO INVESTIGATORS, THE BUSINESS ALARM HAD BEEN SET, BUT DID NOT ACTIVATE WHEN THE BURGLARY OCCURRED. AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE BURGLARY AS WELL AS WHAT EXACTLY WAS STOLEN IS UNDERWAY. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT. WANTED MAN ARRESTED IN FORT BRAGG JKB 1/31/12

  • A WANTED GEYSERVILLE MAN WAS ARRESTED IN FORT BRAGG AFTER HE WAS FOUND SITTING IN HIS CAR ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.

DEPUTIES MADE CONTACT WITH 48 YEAR OLD MAURICE HORN BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT HE WAS ILLEGALLY CAMPING IN HIS CAR JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. HORN APPEARED TO BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND INITIALLY GAVE OFFICERS FALSE NAME. FURTHER INVESTIGATION DETERMINED HORN WAS WANTED ON A $100,000 WARRANT OUT OF MARIN COUNTY AND HE WAS ARRESTED.

UKIAH COUPLE ARRESTED IN DISPUTE JKB 1/31/12

  • A COHABITATING UKIAH COUPLE WERE ARRESTED AFTER THEY GOT IN A FIGHT WITH EACH OTHER EARLY SATURDAY MORNING.

POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE HOME ON LAWS AVENUE JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND 27 YEAR OLD JOSHUA POLLARD AND 27 YEAR OLD MELANIE ILAR HAD BEEN IN A PHYSICAL FIGHT WITH BOTH SUFFERING INJURIES. BOTH WERE ON PROBATION AND BOTH WERE ARRESTED FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT AND A PROBATION VIOLATION. EACH IS BEING HELD ON $30,000 BAIL.

PAYNE, A HEALDSBURG RESIDENT, WAS A PIONEER BODY BUILDER AND LIFE LONG FRIEND OF JACK LA LANE. HE SUFFERED RENAL FAILURE FIVE YEARS AGO AND WAS UNDERGOING REGULAR DIALYSIS TREATMENT. HE WAS FIGHTING A RECENT INFECTION AND WAS RECEIVING DIALYSIS TREATMENT WHEN HE DIED OF HEART FAILURE FRIDAY MORNING. PAYNE WON THE BODY BUILDING TITLE OF MR. AMERICA IN 1950 AND WAS THE NATIONALLY TELEVISED WORLD WRISTWRESTLING CHAMPION IN 1964, 66, 74, AND 75. A CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE WILL BE HELD ON MARCH 11TH AT 1 PM AT THE FRIEDMAN CENTER IN SANTA ROSA. HIS FAMILY HAS SUGGESTED THAT IN LIEU OF FLOWERS OR DONATIONS, MOURNERS BUY A GYM MEMBERSHIP AND USE IT.

MENDO SUPERVISORS TO ADOPT PAY CUT TODAY JKB 1/31/12

  • THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS EXPECTED TO OFFICIALLY ADOPT A PERMANENT 10% PAY CUT FOR THEMSELVES AT A SPECIAL MEETING TODAY.

  • INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY STILL HAVE NO MOTIVE IN THE KILLING OF A POPULAR REDWOOD VALLEY REGGAE MUSICIAN OUTSIDE HIS HOME TUESDAY NIGHT.

AN AUTOPSY SHOWED 30 YEAR OLD JAMAL ANDREWS DIED AFTER BEING STRUCK IN THE HEAD AND SHOULDER BY TWO SHOTS FIRED FROM A RIFLE. 33 YEAR OLD BILL NORBURY WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH HIS MURDER. ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS, NORBURYS ESTRANGED WIFE CLAIMED HE WAS MENTALLY ILL, SUFFERED FROM PARANOIA, AND WAS EXTREMELY IRRATIONAL AND UNSTABLE. HE ALSO REPORTEDLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH ALCOHOL, WITH THREE PRIOR ARRESTS FOR DUI, AND AN ARREST TWO WEEKS AGO FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION. AUTHORITIES ARE ASKING ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS CASE TO CONTACT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

ACID BOMB JKB 1/27/12

  • LAKEPORT POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A POSSIBLE ACID BOMB THAT WAS DETONATED IN THE 2000 BLOCK OF HARTLEY STREET WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO THE AREA AT AROUND 9 PM. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND WHAT APPEARED TO BE A 2 LITER PLASTIC SODA BOTTLE EXPLODED ON THE GROUND AND THE REMAINS OF A POSSIBLE ACID OR CHEMICAL BOMB. A WITNESS SAID THEY SAW TWO MALE JUVENILES AND A FEMALE JUVENILE ALONG WITH A VEHICLE THAT DROVE THROUGH THE AREA NEAR THE TIME OF THE BOMB EXPLODED. A SEARCH OF THE AREA TURNED UP NO OTHER EXPLOSIVE DEVICES, AND NO IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THE PUBLIC WAS APPARENT. THE INCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

E-QUAKES AT GEYSERS JKB 1/27/12

  • A PAIR OF MODERATE SIZED EARTHQUAKES SHOOK THE GEYSERS AREA YESTERDAY.

THE FIRST QUAKE STRUCK AT 11:54 AM AND MEASURED 3.0 IN MAGNITUDE. THE SECOND OCCURRED AT 9:21 PM AND WAS MEASURED AT A MAGNITUDE OF 3.4. BOTH QUAKES WERE CENTERED BETWEEN 1 AND 2 MILES NORTH NORTH WEST OF THE STEAM FIELDS. EACH QUAKE WAS FOLLOWED BY EIGHT AFTERSHOCKS RANGING IN SIZE FROM 1.0 TO 2.5 IN MAGNITUDE. THEY WERE THE THIRD AND FOURTH QUAKES 3.0 OR LARGER TO STRIKE THE AREA SINCE THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.

APARTMENT COMPLEX EVACUATED OVER BOMB THREAT JKB 1/27/12

  • AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN CLEARLAKE WAS PARTIALLY EVACUATED LATE LAST NIGHT AFTER THE DISCOVERY OF A SUSPICIOUS PACKAGE, BELIEVED TO CONTAIN EXPLOSIVES WAS LOCATED IN A DUMPSTER FOLLOWING A PHONE THREAT.

ABOUT 30 RESIDENTS OF THE CLEARLAKE COMMONS APARTMENT COMPLEX ON AUSTIN DRIVE WERE RELOCATED TO THE HIGHLANDS SENIOR CENTER TEMPORARILY, WHILE A NAPA BOMB SQUAD WAS CALLED INTO REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF THE DEVICE. RESIDENTS WHO HAD BEEN EVACUATED WERE ALLOWED TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES AT AROUND 3:30 THIS MORNING. NO OTHER DETAILS ABOUT THE INCIDENT HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STEALING HISTORICAL HATS JKB 1/27/12

  • A EUREKA MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER STEALING HISTORICAL NATIVE AMERICAN BASKET HATS FROM THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY MUSEUM AND TRYING TO SELL THEM TO AN ANTIQUE SHOP.

30 YEAR OLD CARTER DANIELS WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AT THE ANTIQUE SHOP JUST HOURS AFTER HE STOLE THE SEVEN YUROK AND HOOPA HATS DURING AN EARLY MORNING BURGLARY AT THE BLUE LAKE MUSEUM. DANIELS WAS REPORTEDLY TRYING TO SELL THE HATS FOR A TOTAL OF $3000. MUSEUM STAFF ESTIMATE THE VALUE OF THE HATS AT $1,200 TO $3,500 EACH.

55 YEAR OLD ROBIN PHILLIPS IS A CONVICTED AND REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER. AS A CONDITION OF HIS PAROLE, HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO VIEW OR POSSESS SEXUAL MATERIAL. DEPUTIES CONDUCTING A SEXUAL ASSAULT FELONY ENFORCEMENT OR SAFE CHECK ON HIS HOME MONDAY, LOCATED THREE ADULT PORNOGRAPHIC DVDS. HE WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL FOR A PAROLE VIOLATION.

SEIU ACCEPTS CONTRACT WITH MENDO COUNTY JKB 1/27/12

  • MEMBERS OF SEIU 1021, THE UNION THAT REPRESENTS THE LARGEST PORTION OF EMPLOYEES THAT WORK FOR THE COUNTY, ANNOUNCED WEDNESDAY THAT THEY HAVE VOTED TO ACCEPT THE TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED WITH THE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN DECEMBER THAT IMPOSES A 10% WAGE CUT.

THE AGREEMENT IS A SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT OVER THE 12.5% WAGE CUT SUPERVISORS LEVIED ON COUNTY EMPLOYEES IN NOVEMBER. SEIU OFFICIALS SAID THE EMPLOYEE NEGOTIATIONS WERE NOT JUST ABOUT MONEY, BUT ALSO ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EMPLOYEES AND THE COUNTY, AS WELL AS DIGNITY AND RESPECT IN THE WORKPLACE. A LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTY RESPONDING TO A REPORT OF A HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN UPPER LAKE AT AROUND 2 AM, SPOTTED 39 YEAR OLD JOSE CARLOS INIGUEZ TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON LAKESHORE BLVD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THINKING IT WAS POSSIBLE THE VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERY, THE DEPUTY GAVE CHASE. INIGUEZ REFUSED TO PULL OVER AND LED THE DEPUTY ON A PURSUIT AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 90 MILES PER HOUR, CROSSING SEVERAL TIMES INTO THE ONCOMING LANE OF TRAFFIC. HE FINALLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT AND ROLLED END OVER END, LANDING UPSIDE DOWN ON THE ROADWAY. INIGUEZ THEN ATTEMPTED TO FLEE ON FOOT BUT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY MOMENTS LATER. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL FOR DUI, EVADING A PEACE OFFICER, DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE AND PAROLE VIOLATIONS. IT WAS NOT CONFIRMED IN THE POLICE REPORT IF HE WAS INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERY. POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR THREE SUSPECTS IN THAT CASE.

59 YEAR OLD RANDY D. RHODES WAS ARRESTED AFTER AGENTS FOUND SEVEN POUNDS OF PROCESSED PACKAGED MARIJUANA IN A GUN SAFE, $35,000 IN CASH AND A LOADED .38 CALIBER PISTOL. RENO POLICE CONTACTED LOCAL AUTHORITIES AFTER RHODES DAUGHTER WAS DISCOVERED ON A TRAIN TWO WEEKS AGO WITH $130,000 IN CASH SUSPECTED TO HAVE BEEN PROFITS FROM MARIJUANA SALES.

THE CRASH SNARLED TRAFFIC FOR CLOSE TO FOUR HOURS. THE NAME OF THE DRIVER WAS NOT RELEASED. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT IS CONTINUING.

CAREGIVERS SON ARRESTED FOR FRAUD JKB 1/26/12

POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE HOME OF THE 104 YEAR OLD VICTIM IN LITTLE RIVER FRIDAY. THE CAREGIVER TOLD DEPUTIES THAT HER SON, 23 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER BORCKWAY, A PAROLEE WHO HAD RECENTLY MOVED TO THE AREA HAD TAKEN THE CREDIT CARD FROM HER WHILE SHE SLEPT AND THAT SHE SUSPECTED HIM OF MAKING FRAUDULENT CHARGES. BROCKWAY WAS ARRESTED TUESDAY IN WILLITS FOR FRAUD, SECOND DEGREE BURGLARY AND CRIMES AGAINST AN ELDER ADULT. INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE BROCKWAY CHARGED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO THE VICTIMS CREDIT CARD AT SEVERAL BUSINESSES OVER A THREE-WEEK PERIOD.

  • A WILLITS MAN WAS ARRESTED LAST WEEK ON RAPE CHARGES AFTER A LENGTHY INVESTIGATION.

ACCORDING TO POLICE THE VICTIM CONFIDED IN A WILLITS HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER ABOUT THE ABUSE THAT ALLEGEDLY BEGAN TWO YEARS AGO, AND THE TEACHER CONTACTED AUTHORITIES. 40 YEAR OLD AARON LEE JOHNSON HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH FIVE FELONIES CONNECTED WITH THE ALLEGED RAPES, AND AN UNRELATED CHARGE OF BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION.

  • THE CHP IS ASKING FOR THE PUBLICS HELP IN LOCATING A VEHICLE INVOLVED IN A HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT ON NORTH STATE STREET TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, TWO MEN IN A BLACK FORD EXPLORER HAD JUST FINISHED DROPPING OFF PLASTIC RECYCLING MATERIAL AT TNJ RECYCLERS WHEN THEY EXITED THE LIGHTELS PARKING LOT ON NORTH STATE STREET AND LAKE MENDOCINO DRIVE AND COLLIDED WITH A PARKED GMC SIERRA, WHICH IN TURN, STRUCK A PARKED TOYOTA TACOMA PICK UP. THE EXPLORER THEN FLED THE SCENE NORTHBOUND ON NORTH STATE STREET. THE DRIVER IS DESCRIBED AS AN AMERICAN INDIAN MALE IN HIS LATE 20S, 6 FEET TALL, 240 POUNDS, WEARING A RED BEANIE. A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE IS DESCRIBED AS AN AMERICAN INDIAN MALE, IN HIS LATE 20S 5 FEET 8 INCHES TALL, 165 POUNDS, WEARING A WHITE SHRIT. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUSPECTS, THEIR VEHICLE, OR WHO MAY HAVE WITNESSED THE ACCIDENT IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE UKIAH CHP OFFICE.

  • THE COUNTY OF MENDOCINO HAS BEEN FINED $123,000 FOR FAILING TO SEEK THE PROPER OVERSIGHT DURING A RENOVATION PROJECT, BY ITS OWN COUNTY AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT.

AIR POLLUTION CONTROL OFFICER CHRIS BROWN SENT A LETTER TO COUNTY SUPERVISORS SAYING THAT HE WAS NOT NOTIFIED BEFORE RENOVATIONS BEGAN AT THE MENTAL HEALTH BUILDING IN NOVEMBER THAT MAY HAVE INCLUDED ASBESTOS REMOVAL. THE VICTIM TOLD POLICE HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE LIVING ROOM AT AROUND 2 AM AND WENT TO INVESTIGATE. HE CLAIMED HE WAS CONFRONTED BY THREE OR FOUR ARMED HISPANIC MALE ADULTS WHO DEMANDED TO KNOW WHERE HE KEPT HIS MARIJUANA, MONEY AND GUNS. THE SUSPECTS THEN TIED THE VICTIMS HANDS AND FEET BEFORE LEAVING WITH APPROXIMATELY 20 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, $1,500 IN CASH AND A FIREARM. THE VICTIM WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO FREE HIMSELF AND CALL 911. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS INCIDENT IS ASKED TO CONTACT THE LAKE COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

MAN DIES AFTER JUMPING FROM BUILDING JKB 1/25/12

  • A HUMBOLDT COUNTY MAN DIED AFTER JUMPING OFF THE MASONIC LODGE BUILDING IN EUREKA YESTERDAY MORNING.

35 YEAR OLD LEVI WILLIAM HAYNES REPORTEDLY ACCESSED THE ROOF OF THE BUILDING BY PROPPING UP A WOODEN PALLET AND USING IT TO REACH A FIRE ESCAPE LADDER. WITNESSES SAID HAYNES TOOK A RUNNING LEAP OFF THE BUILDING AND LANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF G STREET JUST BEFORE 10:30 AM. HAYNES, WHOSE FAMILY LIVES IN CRESCENT CITY, SUFFERED MAJOR HEAD INJURIES AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON ARRIVAL AT ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL. ACCORDING TO POLICE HAYNES HAD A HISTORY OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, AND HAD REPORTEDLY SPOKEN ABOUT JUMPING OFF THE MASONIC LODGE BUILDING IN THE PAST.

  • A REDWOOD VALLEY MAN WAS SHOT TO DEATH AT HIS HOME LAST NIGHT, AND HIS NEIGHBOR HAS BEEN ARRESTED FOR HIS MURDER.

DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO THE HOME JUST BEFORE 10 PM. WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND 30 YEAR OLD JAMAL ANDREWS DEAD OUTSIDE OF HIS HOME. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE VICTIMS GIRLFRIEND, THEY LEARNED THE POSSIBLE SUSPECT, 33 YEAR OLD BILLY NORBURY, HAD FLED ON AN ATV AND LIVED NEAR BY. DEPUTIES CONTACTED NORBURY AT HIS HOME AND SAW ITEMS IN PLAIN SIGHT THAT LINKED HIM TO THE SHOOTING DEATH OF ANDREWS. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON CHARGES OF MURDER. THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE INCIDENT IS CONTINUING.

BOULEY, WHO WAS ON DIVERSION PROBATION FOR A PRIOR DRUG ARREST WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL WITH NO BAIL SET.

  • ONE MAN WAS KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED IN A TWO CAR COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 20 YESTERDAY MORNING.

ACCORDING TO THE CHP, A 63 YEAR OLD FORT BRAGG MAN WAS TRAVELING EASTBOUND WHEN, DUE TO EXCESSIVE SPEED, HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE WHILE ROUNDING A RIGHT CURVE IN THE ROADWAY 12 AND A HALF MILES EAST OF FORT BRAGG, NEAR MCGUIRES POND AT AROUND 9:30 AM. HE CROSSED THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINE AND COLLIDED WITH THE LEFT FRONT OF UTILITY TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY A 51 YEAR OLD BRYON OUGH OF UKIAH. THE FORT BRAGG MAN, WHOSE NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, DIED AT THE SCENE. OUGH WAS TAKEN TO MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT OF MINOR INJURIES.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL MOLESTATION JKB 1/20/12

  • A FORT BRAGG MAN WAS ARRESTED FOR MOLESTING A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL, AFTER THE VICTIM TOLD A TEACHERS AIDE AT SCHOOL ABOUT THE INCIDENTS THAT HAD OCCURRED OVER SEVERAL DAYS.

A CONCERNED FATHER CONTACTED THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT AFTER LEARNING THAT 29 YEAR OLD JASON JAMES RUSSELL OF CLEARLAKE HAD CONTACTED HIS DAUGHTER ON FACEBOOK VIA TEXT MESSAGE. THE GIRL MADE IT CLEAR SHE DID NOT WANT TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, BUT HE PERSISTED. DETECTIVES SET UP AN UNDERCOVER OPERATION POSING AS THE GIRL, AND RUSSELL ALLEGEDLY SET UP A TIME TO MEET WITH HER AT AUSTIN PARK IN CLEARLAKE FOR THE PURPOSE OF HAVING SEX. HE WAS ARRESTED AND CONFESSED TO PROPOSITIONING SEVERAL UNDERAGE GIRLS ON FACEBOOK. HE WAS BOOKED INTO THE COUNTY JAIL ON A NUMBER SEXUAL MOLESTATION AND PREDATION CHARGES.

11 YEAR OLD TAYLOR VO WAS ABDUCTED BY 42 YEAR OLD TRI LE JUST AFTER 1 AM. LE ALLEGEDLY ENTERED HIS EX-GIRLFRIENDS HOME AND FIRED OFF A COUPLE OF ROUNDS FROM AN UNKNOWN TYPE OF FIREARM. THE SUSPECT TOOK THE CHILD AND FLED THE SCENE IN A DARK COLORED MINIVAN OF AN UNKNOWN MAKE AND MODEL. THE LICENSE PLATE IS ALSO UNKNOWN. THE CHILD IS DESCRIBED AS BEING OF ASIAN DESCENT, 5 FEET 3 INCHES TALL, 105 POUNDS WITH BLACK HAIR AND BROWN EYES. THE SUSPECT IS ALSO OF ASIAN DESCENT, 5 FEET 6 INCHES TALL, 170 POUNDS WITH BLACK HAIR AND BROWN EYES. HE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING A BLACK BASEBALL CAP, BLACK JACKET AND BLUE JEANS.   • THE GEYSERS WERE SHAKEN BY A 3.0 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, THE 2ND QUAKE 3.0 OR LARGER TO STRIKE THE AREA SINCE NEW YEARS DAY.

THE QUAKE OCCURRED AT 4:57 PM AND WAS CENTERED 2 MILES EAST SOUTH EAST OF THE STEAM FIELDS. IT WAS FOLLOWED BY FOUR AFTERSHOCKS RANGING IN SIZE FROM 1.2 TO 2.3 IN MAGNITUDE.

  • ANOTHER HOME INVASION ROBBERY HAS TAKEN PLACE, THE LATEST IN LOCK LOMOND.

THE VICTIM CALLED POLICE AT AROUND 5:30 AM AND REPORTED THAT HE HAD BEEN AWOKEN BY A NOISE A HALF HOUR EARLIER AND CONFRONTED THREE MEN STANDING IN THE HALLWAY WHEN HE WENT TO INVESTIGATE. ALL THREE SUSPECTS WERE WEARING DARK CLOTHING AND SKI MASKS, AND ONE WAS CARRYING A HANDGUN. HE WAS THEN ATTACKED AND OVERPOWERED BY THE INTRUDERS. THE SUSPECTS RANSACKED THE HOME, STATING THEY WERE LOOKING FOR MARIJUANA AND CASH. THEY EVENTUALLY LEFT TAKING ELECTRONICS, CASH AND THE VICTIMS CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS RECOVERED IN THE KELSEYVILLE AREA. THE VICTIM WAS TREATED FOR INJURIES HE RECEIVED AT ST HELENA CLEARLAKE HOSPITAL. THE SUSPECTS REMAIN UNIDENTIFIED AND AT LARGE.

AN APPEALS COURT HAD STRUCK DOWN SEVERAL PARTS OF LONG BEACHS ORDINANCE THAT SOUGHT TO REGULATE MEDICAL MARIJUANA COLLECTIVES, INCLUDING RULES FOR A LOTTERY AND PERMITTING SYSTEM LAST YEAR. THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION SAYS SUCH REGULATION IS IN VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW, AS MARIJUANA IS ILLEGAL IN THE EYES OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. MENDOCINO COUNTY OFFICIALS WHO HAVE SUSPENDED THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA PERMIT PROGRAM UNTIL THE COURT RENDERS THEIR DECISION WILL WATCH THE CASE CLOSELY.   • EUREKA POLICE ARRESTED SIX PEOPLE YESTERDAY MORNING WHO ALLEGEDLY BROKE INTO A VACANT HOUSE IN A PROTEST FOR THE PLIGHT OF THE HOMELESS AND FORECLOSURES.

FOUR MEN AND TWO WOMEN RANGING IN AGE BETWEEN 21 AND 25 WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER POLICE FORCED THEIR WAY INSIDE. THE SIX SUBJECTS IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS PART OF THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT. FIVE OF THE SIX HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ARRESTED AT OCCUPY EVENTS. ACCORDING TO POLICE THE TRESPASSERS SPRAY PAINTED ANARCHIST SYMBOLS ON THE WALLS, TORE OUT SOME OF THE WIRING AND CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE HOME, WHICH IRONICALLY, WAS NOT IN FORECLOSURE.
