A LARGE METAL CONTAINER WITH NEAR $62,000 DOLLARS WAS ALSO FOUND. FALLS AND A SECOND SUSPECT, 38 YEAR OLD SHANE SMITH OF ATLANTA GEORGIA, WERE ARRESTED, CITED AND RELEASED.

A MAN WHO SERIOUSLY INJURED A UKIAH POLICE OFFICER DURING A SCUFFLE LAST MARCH HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO PRISON.

24 YEAR OLD ROBERT JOSEPH PAUL OF EUREKA, CLAIMED HE WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS WHEN HE INJURED THE OFFICERS SHOULDER DURING AN INCIDENT AT THE SUN HOUSE PARK LAST YEAR. ON FRIDAY, PAUL WAS SENTENCED TO 5 YEARS IN STATE PRISON.

CLEARLAKE WOMAN CONVICTED OF ELDER ABUSE JH 07/31/12

A CLEARLAKE WOMAN HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF ELDER ABUSE

19 YEAR OLD KATIE ANN KEY WAS NOT ONLY FOUND GUILTY OF ELDER ABUSE LIKELY TO CAUSE GREAT BODILY INJURY, BUT ALSO CHARGES OF ELDER ABUSE AND DEPENDENT ADULT ABUSE. IT ALL STEMS FROM A PHYSICAL FIGHT WITH 46 YEAR OLD CHRISTINA WARRINGTON OF CLEARLAKE LAST DECEMBER. KEY WILL BE SENTENCED ON AUGUST 22.

MAN GETS 8 YEARS FOR DOUBLE-FATAL ROLLOVER JH 07/31/12

A JUDGE HANDED DOWN AN EIGHT YEAR PRISON SENTENCE TO THE DRIVER OF A VEHICLE IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT.

24 YEAR OLD JACOB LOPEZ MEJIA PLEADED NO CONTEST IN MAY, TO TWO COUNTS OF GROSS VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER WHILE INTOXICATED. MEJIA WAS DRIVING A TRUCK WITH FIVE PASSENGERS WHEN HE LOST CONTROL AND ROLLED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES. THREE PASSENGERS WERE INJURED AND THE OTHER TWO PASSENGERS DIED. MEJIA RECEIVED THE MIDDLE TERM OF SIX YEARS IN STATE PRISON FOR THE FIRST COUNT, AND TWO YEARS FOR THE SECOND COUNT, WHICH HE WILL SERVE CONSECUTIVELY.

SALES TAX MEASURES FOR LAKE COUNTY JH 07/31/12

THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS AND THE CLEARLAKE CITY COUNCIL EACH TOOK THE NEXT STEPS IN PUTTING SALES TAX MEASURES BEFORE THE VOTERS THIS NOVEMBER.

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED UPDATED LANGUAGE AND A REVENUE PLAN FOR A PROPOSED HALF CENT SALES TAX TO USE FOR LAKE RELATED PROJECTS. THE CLEARLAKE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED MOVING FORWARD WITH A ONE CENT SALES TAX MEASURE TO IMPROVE CITY STREETS AND CODE ENFORCEMENT SERVICES. BOTH THE CITY AND COUNTY WANT THE TAXES TO BE FOR SPECIFIC USE, WHICH REQUIRES A TWO-THIRDS VOTE, OR SUPER MAJORITY, TO PASS. IN ORDER TO PUT THE TAX ON THE BALLOT, THE BOARD WILL HOLD A FINAL PUBLIC HEARING ON AUGUST 7TH, AND THE CLEARLAKE CITY COUNCIL WILL HOLD ITS FINAL PUBLIC HEARING ON AUGUST 9TH.

MAN GUILTY OF SEXUAL ABUSE SENTENCED TO PRISON JH 07/30/12

A MAN WHO SEXUALLY ABUSED A 7 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS SENTENCED TO PRISON.

55 YEAR OLD ALBERT SANDOVAL ENTERED A GUILTY PLEA IN JULY TO HAVING COMMITTED CONTINUOUS SEXUAL ABUSE TO A GIRL WHO WAS BEING CARED FOR BY HIS WIFE. THE ABUSE WAS OVER A 3 MONTH PERIOD IN LATE 2011. SANDOVAL WAS SENTENCED FRIDAY TO SERVE 12 YEARS IN STATE PRISON.

NORTH COW MOUNTAIN FIRE UPDATE JH 07/31/12

A WILDFIRE THAT RAGED THROUGH HEAVY BRUSH AND FOREST IN THE COW MOUNTAIN RECREATION AREA WAS FULLY CONTAINED BY 6 P.M. LAST NIGHT.

THE FIRE STARTED AT ABOUT 1:30 P.M. SATURDAY ON MILL CREEK ROAD SOUTHEAST OF UKIAH. ONE INJURY WAS REPORTED AND NO STRUCTURES WERE DESTROYED. CHP OFFICERS INITIALLY INVESTIGATED REPORTS OF AN EXPLOSION BEFORE SMOKE AND A MAN SEEN RUNNING AWAY FROM AN AREA WHERE THE FIRE MAY HAVE STARTED. LAKE COUNTY FIRES OVER THE WEEKEND JH 07/31/12

A WILDLAND FIRE BURNED A TOTAL OF 70 ACRES NEAR RODMAN SLOUGH

THE FIRE BROKE OUT JUST BEFORE 4 PM ON SATURDAY NEAR A PILE OF TRASH ON THE SIDE OF WESTLAKE ROAD NEAR THE NICE-LUCERNE CUTOFF. THE FIRE PRIMARILY BURNED PASTURE AND BLACKBERRY BUSHES. ALTHOUGH, ABOUT AN HOUR INTO THE INCIDENT, A SECOND FIRE, SPARKED BY EMBERS FROM THE MAIN BLAZE, BEGAN IN A NEARBY VINEYARD. BOTH FIRES WERE EXTINGUISHED FAIRLY QUICKLY THANKS TO CAL FIRE AND VARIOUS LAKE COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

HE AND TEAMMATE THOMAS PESZEK NARROWLY AVOIDED ELIMINATION YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN THEY FINISHED THIRD IN THEIR HEAT, EDGING OUT THE HUNGARIAN TEAM BY HALF A SECOND. STAFFORD AND PESZEK WILL ADVANCE TO THE SEMIFINALS ON WEDNESDAY.

COW MOUNTAIN FIRE JH 07/30/12

A WILDFIRE BURNING IN THE COW MOUNTAIN RECREATION AREA IS SUSPECTED TO BE ARSON.

THE FIRE STARTED SATURDAY AFTERNOON OFF MILL CREEK ROAD JUST SOUTH OF UKIAH, AND HAS SPREAD TO MORE THAN 400 ACRES AND WAS AT 80% CONTAINMENT AS OF LAST NIGHT. ONE INJURY HAS BEEN REPORTED AND NO STRUCTURES HAVE BEEN THREATENED. AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE, THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT HAS CLOSED THE COW MOUNTAIN RECREATION AREA UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION, HOWEVER, CALL FIRE HAS RECEIVED REPORTS THAT A SHIRTLESS MAN IN A RED HAT WAS SEEN RUNNING AWAY FROM THE AREA AFTER AN EXPLOSION.

ARREST MADE IN BATTERY WITH INJURY CASE JH 07/30/12

LAKEPORT POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN A BATTERY WITH SERIOUS INJURY CASE THEY HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING SINCE JULY 5TH.

28 YEAR OLD NICHOLAS EDWARD KIRSCH WAS IDENTIFIED AS THE SUSPECT, AND TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITHOUT INCIDENT AT HIS 6TH STREET RESIDENCE. THE VICTIM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 28 YEAR OLD NILES EUGENE BIFFLE OF NICE, WHO IS STILL RECOVERING FROM HIS INJURIES.

FUGITIVE SPOTTED AND ESCAPES JH 07/30/12

MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPUTY ON PATROL SPOTTED A FUGITIVE WANTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARSHALLS OFFICE.

32 YEAR OLD MARCELINO ENRIQUE ANGUIANO FLED IN A VEHICLE WHEN THE DEPUTY ATTEMPTED TO CONDUCT A TRAFFIC STOP. A HIGH SPEED CHASE ENSUED ONTO KNOB HILL THEN WATSON ROAD BEFORE ANGUIANO LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. HE FLED ON FOOT, LEAVING A PASSENGER, IDENTIFIED AS KATHLEEN EILEEN KNIGHT. KNIGHT WAS UNINJURED, AND ARRESTED FOR A PROBATION VIOLATION AND RESISTING OFFICERS. A SEARCH OF THE AREA TO LOCATE ANGUIANO WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION AS TO THE WHEREABOUTS OF ANGUIANO IS REQUESTED TO CONTACT THE MENDOCINO COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT.

RESTRAINING ORDER IN POT ORDINANCE SUIT JH 07/30/12

A LAKE COUNTY JUDGE INDICATED HE WOULD GRANT A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER FOR THE PLAINTIFFS IN A PENDING LAWSUIT CHALLENGING THE COUNTYS MARIJUANA CULTIVATION URGENCY ORDINANCE.

LAKE COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE DAVID HERRICK SAID THE TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER WOULD APPLY ONLY TO THE PLAINTIFFS IN THE CASE. THE LAWSUIT WAS ORIGINALLY FILED ON JULY 12, THREE DAYS AFTER THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS ADOPTED A 45 DAY URGENCY ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING REGULATIONS FOR MARIJUANA GROWTH.

LAKE COUNTY TICKET AMNESTY JH 07/30/12

A SIX MONTH LONG AMNESTY PROGRAM THAT ENDED JUNE 30 TOOK IN JUST UNDER $100,000 FOR LAKE COUNTY.

SUPERIOR COURTS THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM, WHICH ALLOWED INDIVIDUALS TO PAY OFF OLD TRAFFIC TICKETS WITH A 50% REDUCTION. PARKING TICKETS, DUIS AND RECKLESS DRIVING CITATIONS WERE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE PROGRAM. THE FUNDS RECEIVED ARE STILL ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY, CONSIDERING LAKE COUNTY STILL HAS OVER 12,000 CASES THAT REMAIN OUTSTANDING. THOSE CASES ARE VALUED AT JUST OVER $12 MILLION DOLLARS.

GOVERNOR BROWN SIGNS PACT WITH COYOTE VALLEY TRIBE JH 07/30/12

GOVERNOR BROWN AND THE COYOTE VALLEY BAND OF POMO INDIANS HAVE AGREED TO AN AMENDED TRIBAL-STATE GAMING COMPACT.

THE COMPACT IS DESIGNED TO ADDRESS FISCAL CHALLENGES THE TRIBE HAS FACED. THE AMENDED COMPACT WILL ALSO HELP THE TRIBE TO CONTINUE FUNDING PROGRAMS IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES THAT MITIGATE THE IMPACT OF GAMING ACTIVITIES AND ADDRESS GAMBLING ADDICTION.

BROOKTRAILS WATER RATE INCREASE JH 07/30/12

THE BROOKTRAILS BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTED TO HAVE SET PUBLIC HEARINGS FOR A PROPOSED $3.36 PER MONTH WATER BASE INCREASE.

THE INCREASE WOULD BRING THE WATER BASE RATE IN BROOKTRAILS FROM $42.77 TO $46.13 STARTING OCTOBER FIRST. THE INCREASE IS PROMPTED BY THE BOARDS DECISION TO FOLLOW THE VOTERS WISHES AND RETAIN THE DISTRICTS FIRE PROTECTION OFFICER FOR THIS UPCOMING FISCAL YEAR BY USING THE GENERAL FUND. THE FIRST OF TWO PUBLIC HEARINGS IS SET FOR SEPTEMBER 11TH.

THE MENDO-LAKE HAZMOBILE WILL OPEN ITS NEW HOME IN UKIAH TOMORROW.

A $1.2 MILLION DOLLAR NEW FACILITY AT 3200 TAYLOR DRIVE, WILL REPLACE A MAKESHIFT HEADQUARTERS BEHIND THE COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER. THE NEW HAZMOBILE FACILITY WILL BE OPEN FOR DROP-OFF EVERY TUESDAY FROM 8 AM TO 2 PM, AND ALSO ON THE SECOND SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH DURING THE SAME HOURS. THE UKIAH FACILITY IS OPEN TO RESIDENTS OF BOTH MENDOCINO AND LAKE COUNTIES. A COVELO MAN WAS ARRESTED AFTER ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTING AND THREATENING HIS MOTHER.

44 YEAR OLD CLAYTON BRITTON THREATENED TO STAB A MAN AT HIS MOTHERS COVELO HOME TUESDAY EVENING. BRITTON THEN KICKED IN THE DOOR TO HIS 69 YEAR OLD MOTHERS BEDROOM, GRABBED HER, SPRAYED HER IN THE FACE WITH AIR FRESHENER AND THREW HER TO THE GROUND. SHE SUFFERED ONLY MINOR INJURIES THAT DIDNT REQUIRE MEDICAL TREATMENT. BRITTON WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

WOMAN ASSAULTS HOSPITAL STAFF JH 07/27/12

POLICE WERE CONTACTED LATE MONDAY NIGHT ABOUT A WOMAN OUT OF CONTROL AT THE MENDOCINO COAST HOSPITAL.

19 YEAR OLD ALISSA WOLF OF LAYTONVILLE WAS YELLING PROFANITIES AT HOSPITAL STAFF AND POLICE ONCE THEY ARRIVED. OFFICERS HAD TO FORCE HER ONTO A GURNEY FOR EMERGENCY ROOM TREATMENT, DURING WHICH SHE HEAD BUTTED A STAFF MEMBER TWICE CAUSING INJURY. ONCE WOLFE WAS MEDICALLY CLEARED, SHE WAS ARRESTED FOR ASSAULT AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

FOREST CLUB LIQUOR LICENSE SUSPENSION JH 07/27/12

THE FOREST CLUB HAD ITS LIQUOR LICENSE SUSPENDED.

ACCORDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE CONTROL, THE UKIAH BAR HAS ALLOWED A MINOR TO ENTER AND REMAIN ON THE PREMISES TWICE IN THE LAST YEAR. THE BAR HAS ALSO HAD 45 CALLS FOR SERVICE TO THE UKIAH POLICE DEPARTMENT IN RECENT MONTHS. THESE EVENTS HAVE LEAD TO THE 30 DAY LICENSE SUSPENSION, AS WELL AS TWO YEARS OF PROBATION. ANOTHER SIMILAR VIOLATION DURING THE PROBATION PERIOD, COULD COST THE BAR ITS LIQUOR LICENSE TO BE REVOKED PERMANENTLY. ABC ALSO REPORTED THAT THE 711 CLUB, ANOTHER BAR IN UKIAH, HAD ITS LIQUOR LICENSE REVOKED PERMANENTLY EARLIER THIS YEAR.

THREE LAKEPORT CITY COUNCIL SEATS OPEN IN NOVEMBER

THE SEATS UP FOR ELECTION THIS YEAR ARE CURRENTLY HELD BY BOB RUMFELT, SUZANNE LYONS AND ROY PARMENTIER. THE FILING PERIOD IS OPEN FOR THE SEATS, AND THE DEADLINE TO GET THE NOMINATION PAPERS FILED IS AUGUST 10TH. THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION GRANTED THE OFFICE A MAJOR USE PERMIT WEDNESDAY THAT WILL ALLOW THE BAR TO HAVE LIVE MUSIC.

THE CROSSWALK SAFETY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT WILL INCLUDE PEDESTRIAN ACTIVATED IN-ROAD LIGHTING AND A MEDIAN ISLAND TO PROVIDE REFUGE WHILE CROSSING THE FOUR LANES ON HIGHWAY 101 AT GREGORY LANE. TRAFFIC WILL BE RESTRICTED TO ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION FROM NOON TO 6 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE PROJECT IS ANTICIPATED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF AUGUST.

FORT BRAGG AQUATIC CENTER REOPENS JH 07/27/12

FORT BRAGG WILL REOPEN ITS GRAND AQUATIC CENTERS POOLS TOMORROW, SIX MONTHS AFTER THEY WERE SHUT DOWN BY A LACK OF FUNDING.

THE REOPENING RESULTS FROM A HALF-PERCENTAGE POINT SALES TAX INCREASE APPROVED BY VOTERS IN MARCH. THE TAX IS EXPECTED TO RAISE $740,000 ANNUALLY FOR THE CENTER. TOMORROWS GRAND REOPENING WILL INCLUDE A RAFFLE, DIVING EXHIBITIONS, GAMES, CONTESTS, FOOD AND MORE.

OLIVER IS ACCUSED OF STABBING MICHAEL DODELE, A CONVICTED RAPIST, 60 TIMES AT A LAKEPORT MOBILE HOME PARK IN 2007. IN ADDITION TO FIRST DEGREE MURDER, OLIVER IS CHARGED WITH BURGLARY, ELDER ABUSE, AS THE VICTIM WAS 67, AND SEVERAL SPECIAL ALLEGATIONS.

A FORT BRAGG MAN WAS ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF MOLESTING A CHILD.

ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, A PARENT OF THE 12 YEAR OLD CHILD CALLED THE SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT TUESDAY AFTERNOON TO REPORT THE INCIDENT INVOLVING FAMILY ACQUAINTANCE CHARLES HOLMES. HOLMES ALLEGEDLY TOUCHED THE YOUTH INAPPROPRIATELY SUNDAY AT HIS HOME IN THE WOODSIDE RV AND CAMPGROUND ON HIGHWAY 1 JUST SOUTH OF FORT BRAGG. HOLMES WAS INTERVIEWED AND ARRESTED ON SUSPICION OF FIVE COUNTS OF MOLESTATION, INCLUDING FALSE IMPRISONMENT AND ATTEMPTED RAPE OF A PERSON YOUNGER THAN 18.

A CLERK AT THE HERBAN LEGEND MEDICAL CANNABIS DISPENSARY REPORTED THAT A PERSON HAD JUST STOLEN MARIJUANA AND MARIJUANA BASED PRODUCTS, VALUED AT MORE THAN $5000.

THE CLERK WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE THE NAME OF THE SUSPECT AND DESCRIPTION OF THE VEHICLE. POLICE IMMEDIATELY LOCATED 50 YEAR OLD LINDA LITTLE OF FORT BRAGG. IT WAS FOUND THAT SHE POSSESSED THE STOLEN ITEMS. SHE WAS BOOKED INTO MENDOCINO COUNTY JAIL.

THE WILLITS CITY COUNCIL HAD A LONG DISCUSSION LAST NIGHT, ON WHETHER OR NOT TO ACCEPT A FEDERAL COPS GRANT TO HIRE AN ADDITIONAL POLICE OFFICER.

ACCEPTING THE GRANT MEANS THE 2012 BUDGET WOULD HAVE TO BE AMENDED TO INCLUDE MATCHING FUNDS TO COVER THE COST OF THE NEW OFFICER. THE COUNCIL EVENTUALLY AGREED, IN A 3 TO 2 VOTE, TO ACCEPT THE GRANT, WHICH WILL PAY UP TO $125,000. THE CITY WILL HAVE TO MATCH ABOUT 42% ANNUALLY.

WILLITS TO IMPROVE WATER QUALITY AT MORRIS RESERVOIR JH 07/26/12

THE CITY OF WILLITS WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF WATER AT MORRIS RESERVOIR.

LAST NIGHT, THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE LEASE PURCHASE OF TWO SOLAR BEES FOR INSTALLATION AT THE RESERVOIR. THE MACHINES USE SOLAR POWER TO CIRCULATE WATER, BRINGING THE COLDER WATER UP TO THE SURFACE AND DIMINISH ALGAE GROWTH THAT FLOURISHES IN WARM WATER. ACCORDING TO POLICE, SUSPECTS WERE ABLE TO ENTER THE BANK SOMETIME SATURDAY NIGHT, AND BREAK INTO THE ATM MACHINE INSIDE THE BANK. AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY WAS TAKEN. THE SUSPECT APPROACHED AN EMPLOYEE SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND PULLED A HAND GUN FROM HIS POCKET. HE DEMANDED ALL THE MONEY IN THE TILL, AND THE EMPLOYEE GAVE HIM JUST OVER $200. THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE, APPROXIMATELY 5 FOOT 5 INCHES TALL, IN HIS EARLY 20S. HE HAD SHORT BLONDE HAIR, WAS UNSHAVEN AND HAD BAD TEETH. HE ALSO HAD A MARIJUANA LEAF TATTOO ON THE INSIDE OF HIS FOREARM, POSSIBLY THE RIGHT. HE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING BAGGY JEANS AND A BLACK HOODED SWEATSHIRT. THE CALIFORNIA FARM BUREAU FEDERATION FILED A MOTION TO JOIN AN EXISTING LAWSUIT THAT CHALLENGES ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW OF THE WILLITS BYPASS PROJECT. EDUARDO NERY CORONA HAD BEEN AT CROWDED STEALHEAD BEACH WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON WHEN HE SLIPPED BENEATH THE SURFACE. ACCORDING TO REPORTS, IT WAS AT LEAST 5 MINUTES BEFORE HE WAS PULLED FROM THE WATER. HE WAS FLOWN TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL IN OAKLAND, AND PASSED THE NEXT MORNING. OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, THE PARK HAS BEEN LISTED AMONG THE PROPOSED CLOSURES. THE ANDERSON MARSH WAS SCHEDULED TO CLOSE JULY 1, HOWEVER, NEGOTIATIONS BETWEEN STATE PARKS AND THE ANDERSON MARSH INTERPRETIVE ASSOCIATION HAVE KEPT IT OPEN SO FAR. TWO MEN WERE SENTENCED IN MENDOCINO COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT FOR THEIR ROLES IN A BOTCHED MARIJUANA ROBBERY THAT KILLED ONE MAN AND SERIOUSLY WOUNDED ANOTHER AT THE BUSHAY CAMPGROUND AT LAKE MENDOCINO LAST SUMMER.

IN JUNE, A JURY CONVICTED 33 YEAR OLD MARVIN DOUGLAS JOHNSON JR AND 23 YEAR OLD SIMON THORNTON OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER ON THE PREMISE THAT THEY AIDED AND ABETTED IN THE CRIMES. FRIDAY, JOHNSON WAS SENTENCED TO SPEND 25 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON. THORNTON WAS SENTENCED TO 34 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON.

VEHICLE ROLL-OVER JH 07/23/12

A SINGLE VEHICLE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN MULTIPLE INJURIES, YESTERDAY.

AROUND 4:40 SUNDAY AFTERNOON, A SUV WENT OFF THE ROADWAY AND ROLLED OVER ON HIGHWAY 29 JUST EAST OF BOTTLE ROCK ROAD. ACCORDING TO CHP, TWO CHILDREN, AND A 31 YEAR OLD FEMALE ADULT DRIVER WERE IN THE VEHICLE. AT LEAST ONE OF THE CHILDREN WAS AIR LIFTED TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTER OF OAKLAND, AND THE FEMALE ADULT SUFFERED A BROKEN FEMUR AND WAS AIR LIFTED TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. NO OTHER DETAILS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

CHP OFFICERS WORKING THE SCENE OF A VEHICLE ROLLOVER ON HIGHWAY 29, SPOT A DRIVER WITH A METH PIPE.

OFFICERS TRIED TO WAVE THE DRIVER OF THE SUV OVER, HOWEVER HE FLED, LEADING POLICE ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE. WHILE FLEEING AT ABOUT 85 MILES PER HOUR, THE SUV DRIVER TRIED TO TURN ONTO CRUICKSHANK ROAD, BUT LOST CONTROL AND HIT A POWER POLE. THE DRIVER THEN FLED ON FOOT, AND ELUDED POLICE. THE INCIDENT IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.

RESTAURANT ROBBERY JH 07/23/12

A POPULAR LUCERNE RESTAURANT WAS ROBBED AT GUNPOINT SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

A MALE SUSPECT APPEARED IN THE LOBBY OF THE FOSTERS FREEZE ON HIGHWAY 20. HE WAS ARMED WITH A HANDGUN. THE SUSPECT IS REPORTED AS A WHITE MALE, ABOUT 5 FOOT 3 INCHES TALL WITH A MARIJUANA LEAF TATTOO ON HIS FOREARM. HE WAS LAST SEEN LEAVING THE SCENE OF THE CRIME IN A WHITE SUV. MAJOR INJURIES WERE THE RESULT OF A HEAD ON COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 20 OVER THE WEEKEND.

29 YEAR OLD TERRANCE REEVES OF EUREKA SUFFERED LOWER EXTREMITY TRAUMA SATURDAY AFTERNOON, WHEN HIS MUSTANG DRIFTED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC NEAR THE BLUE FISH COVE RESORT EAST OF CLEARLAKE OAKS. THE MUSTANG COLLIDED HEAD-ON WITH A 2000 MACK DUMP TRUCK, ACCORDING TO CHP. REEVES HAD TO BE EXTRICATED FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS FLOWN TO SANTA ROSA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. A PASSENGER IN THE MUSTANG, 35 YEAR OLD JESSICA HENNINGS OF EUREKA AND THE DRIVER OF THE DUMP TRUCK WERE UNINJURED.

THE COMPLIANCE CHECKS OF SEVERAL MARIJUANA GROW SITES IN THE MIDDLETOWN AREA, HAS RESULTED IN TWO ARRESTS AND THE SEIZURE OF 399 POT PLANTS.

THE SEIZED MARIJUANA WAS LOCATED ON PROPERTY, WHERE 30 YEAR OLD MICHAEL JOSEPH SIMON AND 42 YEAR OLD PETER JEFFERSON WAINWRIGHT WERE STAYING IN A MOTORHOME. BOTH CONSENTED TO A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH TURNED UP A 40 CALIBER SEMI AUTO PISTOL AND A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF METHADONE. SIMON AND WAINWRIGHT WERE BOOKED INTO THE LAKE COUNTY HILL ROAD CORRECTIONAL FACILITY. THREE OTHER RESIDENCES WERE WARNED THAT THEY WERE OUT OF COMPLIANCE. THEY WERE GIVEN 48 HOURS TO REMOVE THE EXCESSIVE PLANTS, OR FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES.

SHERIFF VS THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS JH 07/23/12

A JUDGE SAID A DECISION WAS EXPECTED WITHIN A FEW WEEKS REGARDING A WRIT OF MANDATE HEARING BETWEEN SHERIFF FRANK RIVERO AND THE LAKE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS.

RIVERO FILED A PETITION IN LATE MARCH, ASKING THE COURT TO ORDER THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO PROVIDE PRIVATE LEGAL COUNCIL DURING A REPORTED DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE INVESTIGATION, AND TO PAY FOR ATTORNEY FEES ASSOCIATED WITH THE CASE. THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS VOTED 4 TO 1 TO DENY RIVEROS REQUEST FOR PRIVATE LEGAL COUNCIL. THIS IS ALL THE RESULT OF THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OFFICE OPENING AN INVESTIGATION INTO A SHOOTING INVOLVING RIVERO BEFORE HE WAS SHERIFF. THE DA ALLEGES RIVERO MAY NOT HAVE BEEN HONEST DURING THE ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION.

A BAR, KNOW AS THE OFFICE ABOVE SIMONAS RESTAURANT ON EAST MILL STREET IS APPLYING TO THE UKIAH PLANNING COMMISSION FOR A PERMIT THAT WOULD ALLOW IT TO HAVE LIVE MUSIC AND ADDITIONAL OUTDOOR SEATING.
